Closed STAR WARS: Like the Phoenix

To be honest from my experience with running games like this previously I have found that ex-CIS tend to have the biggest difficulty trying to justify why they are aligned to the Alliance for the duration of the New Republic. The NR is built on the very Core aristocracy that you described yourself, political elite from a twenty-year dead regime that aggressively opposed the Secessionist-turned-Separatist movement and pretty much ran Palpatine to the top.

A lack of awareness has rendered the Alliance's leadership pretty much as prone to hypocrisy and doing a lot of what they swore to undo, at least in my personal view, DisCanon actually portrays this a lot better even if in shorter bursts as opposed to Legends where it seems the NR is more of a dysfunctional-but-happy family operating on spit and protagonist glue.

Droids also didn't really play a big role due to a lack of prequels at the time Heir to the Empire - among others - were coming out, so I generally am open to exploring the Separatist cause further, but as I said, it is very difficult to fit them in a way that makes sense.

According to Legends they are a Star Destroyer classification wise.

It hasn't even started yet.

You mentioned not starting it due to lack of interest. That's what I was asking about.

A lot of that history isn't known in character, however.

The Disney canon did have at least one scene where Padme and Mon Mothma discuss the ethics of this, ending up with the rather self-serving argument that the Separatists did not have the right to oppose the Republic, but the Rebel Alliance does have the right to oppose the Empire because they consider themselves to essentially be the Republic in exile.

Given that the Republic has a history of conquering their worlds by force (despite allowing the Hutts and the Corporate Sector autonomy), I can see a CIS faction being heavily involved in the politics of the nascent New Republic because they believe it's clear that the Republic won't leave them be; getting in on the ground floor and limiting the central government from the start is their only real chance.

The first huge set of political debates are logically, "What Republic are we even restoring? The day before Supreme Chancellor Palpatine declared the Empire? Rewind back to before Palpatine's entire career?" And one of the huge political cards to play is, "Most of you Senators supported Palpatine's rise until the very end. How do you propose that the New Republic trust you?"

Realistically speaking, an enormous factor in the political formation of the New Republic is going to be how much of Palpatine's history is exposed by the various older Rebels who had firsthand knowledge of the "fall of the Republic" period.

Remember, it was *only at the end* that Palpatine showed even a portion of his true colors, and even then *no one* knew he was a Sith Lord and had been playing both sides of the war all along. Pretty much everyone who knew anything about that are dead -- Palaptine himself is dead, Dooku is dead, Grievous is dead, Anakin/Vader is dead. Ahsoka is arguably the person in the best position to put the pieces together, but they basically wrote her out of the story until post-Endor to avoid her presence creating plot holes in the classic trilogy.

The Core elites like Mon Mothma who want to basically get back to "business as usual" are going to be emotionally invested in downplaying Palpatine's role in everything because they literally considered him a friend and colleague until he became corrupt, and they're going to be pushing for keeping a *lot* of Palpatine's early "reforms" that consolidated power in the hands of the Republic central government.

@ShadowArxxy Have you considered setting up a threat dedicated to the political situation of the early New Republic? It seems like you have a great deal to say about it.

@almostinsane Well there haven't been any applications, hence why lack of interest. I will still take applications and keep them on the backburner as there is no immediate need for a rapid-pace start.
