I saw the film and I didn't really like it. I wasn't really planning on seeing the film but from word of mouth I heard it was pretty good except the ending baited a sequel so I went and saw it. The animation was neat and I liked about half of the characters. The opening sequence was fun and unlike some people, I dig multiverse style stories. The action scenes with the animation I feel was easier to follow and more well done here then the previous film IMHO as well. There was humor and some strong emotional beats between the characters.
But the movie became really slow... and daresay boring towards the second act and so on. It was broken up by some neat action sequences but overall the plot itself didn't really appeal to me... nor did the main villains and antagonists. Towards the middle of the film, it was already getting pretty slow with exposition and dialogue and showing off "stuff" and easter eggs and nods to everything and fellating how neat and nostalgic everything was, then I really lost interest when the main plotline or plot hook was revealed and it really just killed my interest in the rest of the film.
I feel like this specific type of story has already been done TWICE in the MCU alone, in a What If? episode and in the Dr. Strange 2 movie and now we're getting another rendition of it. I loathe predestination style storylines whether it involves paradoxes or prophecy and it just forced so much contrivance into the rest of the film it killed any real drama for me.
Then... THEN... just as the final act was getting me re-engaged in the film and I was thinking "Oh this is a neat idea/plot twist." I might actually like this movie after all... then the movie throws up a "To Be Continued."
It was abrupt and out of nowhere ending and wasn't just sequel bait. It was like a hard break for a two part movie that you didn't realize you were watching only part one of.
Fuck off movie.
With that said, with how everyone else seemed to like it... I'm assuming my own tastes are very heavy in regards to YMMV.
