Some Bosnian Serb Leaders Agitating for Secession.

Hopefully they can talk it out. No one wants the problems of two plus decades ago... probably. But the State of Bosnia does seem to be in a state of complicated flux though it's still a vast improvement over that entire Civil War that occurred prior to it.

Dodik has been pushing for seccession for a long time, it is his tactic of diverting attention from corruption and general bleak economic outlook of Republika Srpska. Eventually he painted himself into corner and has to push for real seccession or expose himself for the fraud he is. This is bound to be total failiure, Serbian economy would be unable to sustain them and even if they could, RS is not in control of Brčko corridor, thus the heart of RS would be cut off from Serbia.

BiH in general is unworkable smorgasm of dysfunctional politics, pervasive corruption and economic bleakness, held together by EU money and threat of USA military intervention.

But the Brčko district belongs to RS, doesn't it? Or is it an autonomous district?

So if they did secceed and we didn't intervene what would/can the E.U. do?

I just want to remind the people of Europe that the Balkans are not America's responsibility.

Its not a part of our near abroad, its doesn't provide us any truly important trade or resources, going in doesn't serve any of our intrests at all.

We made it our responsibility by interfering in the first place. The Bosnian intervention was when I learned as a child to not trust the government, Clinton and liberalism.

Its been over 20 years since that happened, the European union has stated that their a great power and a hedgemon. The Balkans are literally next door to them, a few countries in the Balkans are EU members this is their responsibility.

You may argue that’s the ideal, however, there are literally still American foreign service personnel in roles of plenipotentiary authority in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Bring them home then? Why in the world should we spend blood and treasure for them? What benefits do they provide.

Oh, that’s certainly an argument to make, but I just wanted to point out the reality that we’ve been running the place like a colony in conjunction with the Euros to keep it from being partitioned or another war breaking out.

We need to let them fight it out. We are artificially preventing a solution by preventing them working thier stuff out. So set limits(no gas, genocide etc) then let them bang it out.

You’ll note that even the EU is avoiding this particular mess like the plague.
I believe any intervention here was a mistake in the first place.
