The ISS - a joint project involving five space agencies - has been in orbit around Earth since 1998 and has been used to conduct thousands of scientific experiments.

It is approved to operate until 2024, but the US wants to extend that for six more years with the agreement of all partners.

At a meeting with Russia's President Vladimir Putin, Mr Borisov said Roskosmos would fulfil its obligations to its partners, but the decision had been taken to quit the project after 2024.

The International Space Station was the result of joint involvement by five different agences, NASA in the United States, Roscosmos of Russia, JAXA of Japan, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency. With the Russians withdrawal sometime after 2024 they also state they will be establishing their own Space Station in the future.

No word on what will become of the Russian Orbital Segment. I'm assuming the ISS gets to keep it but maybe the Russians will follow through on their threat and crash it into the Decadent West from above.

Oh and before I forget...

Obligatory.
