The actor Robert Conrad has just passed away at the age of 84.

While not that well known to modern audiences, he has a special place in my heart because of his role in the amazing 1978 miniseries Centennial where he played 18th century pioneer Pasquinel.

Oh my gosh... my parents and grandparents loved that show Wild, Wild, West. It was a neat science fiction/Western television series. The few rare times I saw it... I wasn't exactly enthralled by it, but they spoke highly of the show... and even more highly when filthy modern entertainment producers tried to copy the idea vapidly. And not just that Will Smith remake of Wild Wild West in 1999 (which had a pretty decent portrayal of President Grant nevertheless) but it prevented me from fully enjoying the television series The Adventures of Brisco County Jr since it was pretty similar in concept.

Unfortunately, going over his filmography I will have to admit I am pretty unfamiliar with the rest of his work, even though his name is striking and memorable. But my older relatives can gab about him a great deal so his loss will definitely be felt by his contemporaries.

He was also in "Baa Baa Black Sheep" IIRC, the series about the Guadalcanal fighter pilots of the "Black Sheep Squadron" (aka "Boyington's Bastards").
