How would things go if Rhaella Targaryen, sister-wife of the Mad King Aerys Targaryen and mother of that idiot Rhaegar Targaryen and more dangerous idiot Viserys Targaryen and most well intentioned but potentially future crazy Daenerys Targaryen, was the only survivor of Summerhall?

What happens when whoever marries her gets to become the King of Westeros and first not-exactly-Targaryen King of Westeros?

Hmmm... I’m not sure. This puts the targaryen monarchy into serious doubt. Tywin hadn’t married Joanna yet. But Tytos was still alive and the Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion occurred about a year later.

Possibly a Velaryon though I’m not sure who’d be marriageable of that family.

Assuming the Targaryen monarchy wasn’t just flat out abolished, there would be a great deal of competition to wed Rhaella. (And that is even assuming any heir would take the Targaryen name).

Hoster and Steffon were married, at least I think they were. As was Richard Stark. We don’t know about Dorne at this time, and I doubt any reach lords would get the prize.

Rhaella would be queen, though her reign would be extremely tenuous, and every lord of high station would dream of being her king consort.

Of course she could choose any lord of her liking(in theory) but would anger all the rest.

Personally given its Westeros I don’t see the Targaryen monarchy surviving. Too many ambitious nobles who would fight to be king. Assuming Tywin deals with the Reynes in a year or so, he’s going to want to marry his old friend’s sister if possible. As the opportunity will be there.

I think killing the Reynes off will have sort of helped solidify his rep

Though, some may think that was too excessive.

Then again it’s pretty much an average thing to do to rape, torture, loot and murder your neighbors and enemies’ civilians for the hell of it

So I’m honestly wondering what makes the Reynes and Elia and her children’s fates more worth of mention other than they were high nobility and the first was willing to possibly negotiate and the latter involved opening up an entire city via treachery

There will be a great deal of instability but the Targaryens could easily ride through it intact. Rhaella would definitely be crowned Queen in accordance with Agnatic Primogeniture. Though if she dies it would be likely that the throne passes to Steffon’s line as they’re the next closest kin. With Rhaella, the Targaryen dynasty would continue through the female line keeping its name. This happened with the Lannisters during the Andal invasion anyway.

Well based on what we know of Tywin the one time he put himself above the Interests of the Lannisters was to marry Joana. So I still see the likely outcome being that Tywin marries her. Though it could go the other way depending on pressure from the Westerlands nobles and the other Lannisters. Kevan could theoretically try convince him to marry Rhaella though.

Either way Queen Regnant Rhaella would be the most sought after bride in Planetos at the time. I could see potential suitors from say Esssos even trying to marry her.
