Funeral festivities for President Trump
Sunday, December 14th, 2020-Wednesday, December 17th, 2020
Reagan_caison_with_Capitol_in_background.jpg

The caisson carrying the flag-draped casket of the late President Donald J. Trump passes in a funeral procession to the US Capitol in Washington, DC on Sunday, December 14th, 2020.

*Sunday, December 14th, 2020: Events in Washington, DC.

In Washington, DC., members of Congress, several US State Governors, members of the public paid tribute to Trump immediately after his death & throughout his funeral.

Events in the capital began when Trump's flag-draped casket arrived at Joint Base Andrews AFB in Prince Georges County, MD. It was removed from the plane, driven by hearse in a procession through the MD & VA suburbs & the nation's capital, across the Arlington Memorial Bridge, & onto Constitutional Avenue.

Near the Eclipse, & within sight of the White House, the hearse immediately came to a stop & Trump's body was transferred to a horse-drawn caisson for the remainder of the procession down Constitutional Avenue to Capitol Hill (making Trump the first US President to have a horse-drawn caisson since Ronald Reagan in 2004). Former First Lady Melania Trump & the entire Trump family stepped out of the limousine to witness the casket's transfer; Melania was greeted with warm greetings, including applause. The cortege began the 45-minute journey just after 5:00 PM EST, with the Trump family following in limousines. Military units escorted the caisson as it made its way to the sounds of muffled drums. Behind the caisson was a riderless horse named Sergeant York, carrying Trump's riding boots & golf clubs reversed in each stirrups. The caisson paused at 4th Street & Constitutional Avenue, where 21 Air Force F-15's from Seymour AFB of Goldsboro, NC, flew over in missing man formation.

*Capitol Hill:

The caisson stopped when it arrived on Capitol Hill; military units removed it, & "Hail to the Chief" was played amidst a 21 Cannon Salute. The casket was carried up the West Front steps of the Capitol, mainly because since Reagan's 1981 inauguration, every succeeding President has been inaugurated there. Two teams of military pallbearers carried the casket up the steps of the Capitol to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."

When the casket reached the top of the steps, the Trump family met it. Melania, Barron, Eric, Donald, Jr., Ivanka, & Tiffany each touched the flag-draped casket for a few moments before the casket was marched inside the Capitol Rotunda, followed by the Trump family & several of the Trump Cabinet Secretaries.

The casket was placed under the Capitol Rotunda, where it lay in state on Abraham Lincoln's catafalque. An evening memorial service then took place, with dignitaries primarily composed of Congressional members, members of the United States Supreme Court & the Diplomatic Corps; the Reverend Franklin Graham, gave the invocation. Eulogies were delivered by United States Senate President Pro Tempore Chuck Grassley (R-IA), US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) & US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

After the eulogies, the three speakers each laid a wreath at the casket & the US Senate Chaplain, Pastor Barry Black, gave the benediction. Pompeo escorted former First Lady Melania Trump to the casket, where she said her goodbyes. The dignitaries in the room paid their respects during the next half-HR. In a rare instance, the doors of the Capitol were temporarily open (despite the COVID-19 pandemic) to the public, who stood in lines stretching many blocks to view the flag-draped casket of the 48th President.

*Public Viewing: Sunday, December 14th, 2020-Tuesday, December 16th, 2020
The general public stood in long lines (socially distanced obviously & masks were required) waiting their turn to pay their respects to the late 48th President. About 5,000 per HR passed the casket, after waiting up to seven HRS. In all, 104,583 paid their respects when Trump lay in state.

After returning to Washington following a meeting with the National Governors Association in a virtual meeting, President Mike Pence & First Lady Karen Pence visited the Capitol (this time Trump's flag-draped casket was marched to the West Front steps due to the COVID-19 pandemic) to pay their respects. Many world leaders did the same, including Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, Korean President Moon Jae-in.

While Trump's casket lay in state, Melania Trump & her family took up residence in the Blair House, the official residence of guests of the President of the United States. There, she was greeted by additional dignitaries & public figures.

*Tuesday, December 16th, 2020: State Funeral Service.

REAGANWNC.jpg
Following 35 HRS of lying in state, the doors of the Capitol (were already closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic) & a military honor guard carried the flag-draped casket down the steps of the West Front of the US Capitol to a 21 Cannon Salute where the Trump family held their hands over their hearts, while TV cameras showed Tiffany crying uncontrollably. After it was placed in a hearse, the motorcade departed on the five-mile trip (8 km) to the Washington National Cathedral, where the State Funeral service was to be held; crowds lined up the route of the cortege as the hearse made its way.

About 2,000 people gathered at the Washington National Cathedral for the State Funeral, including President & First Lady Pence, former Presidents Jerry Brown & Albert Gore, Jr.,; former Vice Presidents Dan Quayle, Wesley Clark & Mary Landrieu. Members of Congress including past & present US State/Territorial Governors were in attendance. Foreign dignitaries also attended the service, coming from just 72 nations ranging from past & present Heads of State & government.

*Cathedral events:
The motorcade arrived on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral & Trump's casket was removed. The bearers carrying it paused on the Cathedral steps, & an opening prayer by The Very Reverend Randolph Hollerith, Dean of the Washington National Cathedral. The casket was then carried down the aisle; the Trump family followed & Melania Trump was escorted to her seat by President Pence. Rosemarie Logan Duncan was the master of ceremonies. US Supreme Court Associate Justice Neil Gorsuch & Ivanka Trump were the readers. The choir sung songs such as "Faire is the Heaven"; "O Love of God, How Strong & True", "Bring Us, O Lord" & "And I saw a New Heaven". Eulogies were delivered by President Pence, Ivanka Trump (who spoke on behalf of the family, where during her eulogy she tearfully broke down & wept multiple times) & Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Musical tributes were provided by the United States Coast Guard Band, the United States Marine Orchestra & the University of Alabama (Million Dollar Band). Soon afterwards, the flag-draped casket was then lifted, turned & borne out of the cathedral to "For All the Saints, Who From Their Labor Rest" as all of the dignitaries stood in respect.

The Washington Ringing Society had rang half-muffled quarter peal of Grandshire Caters to Trump's memory. The hearse carrying Trump arrived at Joint Base Andrews AFB at 2:00 PM EST & at 2:16 PM EST, transferred aboard VC25A 29000 via scissor-truck as the Trump family boarded Special Air Mission 48 & took off after 2:33 PM EST.

Trump's remains arrived at the Tallahassee International Airport on the late afternoon of December 16th at 4:30 PM EST where they were greeted by a military escort, transported to the FL State Capitol & laid in repose until the following morning. A second funeral service for family & friends was held at the Faith Presbyterian Church at 10:00 AM on December 17th. Eulogies were delivered by White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, United States Senator Richard Scott (R-FL) & Reverend Franklin Graham. Officiating the service was Senior Pastor Brad Clayton & Associate Pastor Trinity Whitley. During the service, The Oak Ridge Boys sung "Amazing Grace" & Lee Greenwood sung "God Bless the USA".

After the church service, the remains were driven by hearse to the Tallahassee International Airport, where it was transported via scissor-truck to Special Air Mission 49 to the final destination: West Palm Beach for interment. Upon arrival at the Palm Beach International Airport, Arrival Honors were rendered followed by the 21 Cannon Salute by the Presidential Salute Battery Unit; Guard of honor formed by the FL Highway Patrol, attended the removal of the casket from Special Air Mission 49 to an awaiting hearse for the procession to the Mar-a-Lago Estate Grounds in West Palm Beach.

Funeral Services for President Trump at the First Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, FL on December 17th.

During interment, the United States Navy announced it would perform the largest funeral flyover in history, with what the Navy had described as one of the "most unprecedented" 21 F/A-18 Hornets led by Captain Kevin McLaughlin, commanding officer of Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic, whose own aircraft was painted in special memorial livery. The missing man formation flyover had featured 21 aircraft. Among those in attendance at the interment ceremony: FL Governor Ron DeSantis (R) & his wife, FL First Lady Casey DeSantis who accompanied the Trump family toward the gravesite on the Mar-a-Lago Estate Grounds in Palm Beach. The interment ceremony was private; it was not filmed (but several pictures were shown to the media the next day or two), broadcast on television, or streamed online at the advance request of the Trump family. Only the Arrival Honors festivites, the flyover, including the 21 Cannon Salute & the performance of "Taps" that happened on the Mar-a-Lago Estate Grounds, were shown instead. According to sources, during the flag presentation, FL Governor Ron DeSantis (R) presented the folded American flag to former First Lady Melania Trump, who accepted the flag; members of the Trump family bid their goodbyes at the graveside service. Trump's remains were buried on the early morning of December 18th.

January 1st, 2017: NC Governor Roy Cooper (D) taking the Oath of Office inside the Old State Capitol Building.

With his reelection victory assured from the previous month by double digits very easily over his arch-rival NC Lieutenant Governor Dan Forrest (R), NC Governor Roy Cooper (D) became the first NC Governor to win reelection since Mike Easley, who was reelected in 2004. Once again, Cooper out-performed other fellow Democrats on the statewide ballot. However, Cooper was going to be facing an openly-hostile Republican-controlled NC General Assembly as he was making plans for what his second term would look like in the next four years as well as his political future as talks of Cooper being mentioned as a future contender for the Presidency or Vice Presidency would slowly, but certainly accelerate.

Cooper, who has never lost an election either in the primary or general elections since first winning a seat in the NC House of Representatives back in 1986, had an unstoppable winning streak which impressed all North Carolinians because they knew him best: strong leadership during tough times & it was necessary to keeping things stable as the world was still in the middle of the international pandemic.

In the meantime, Cooper anticipated more political gridlock with the Republican-controlled NC General Assembly over everything from congressional redistricting, Medicaid expansion debates, bitter debates over repealing the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act among other political heated button issues facing North Carolinians.

May 16th, 2019: Robredo following her impromptu inauguration as the 17th President of the Philippines.

Following the impeachment & removal of controversial firebrand Rodrigo Duterte & the ascension of Leni Robredo as the Philippines' 17th President on May 16th, 2019, Robredo quickly got to work first by repairing strained diplomatic relations between the Philippines & the United States. During a working visit to the United States on May 24th, 2019, Robredo met with then-US President Donald Trump at the White House, where they agreed to reinforcing US/Filipino joint military exercises in the Pacific in order to reinforce the Armed Forces of the Philippines' abilities in combating Abu Sayyaf in the South China Sea region. Later on the afternoon of May 24th, Trump & Robredo held a bilateral joint press conference about economic & trade ties, energy, human rights, democracy, PRC, North Korea's nuclear threats, & counter-terrorism.

On the domestic front, the Robredo administration did the following:
*Spearheading programs that originally began under the Office of the Vice President, which were transferred to the Office of the President upon her ascension.
*Flagship anti-poverty program Angat Buhay benefited 622,000 families in 223 cities & municipalities across the country.
*Partnered with 372 organizations in the implementation of Angat Buhay.
*The Angat Buhay program focused on six advocacy areas: public education, rural development, food security & nutrition, women empowerment, universal healthcare, housing & resettlement.
*Robredo terminated the Duterte administration's controversial war on drugs. She worked with the Congress of the Philippines, who passed her recommendations of legislation on improving the government's campaign against drugs.
*Voiced support for the proposed anti-turncoat law in the Philippine House of Representatives.
*On foreign policy: Robredo blasted the People's Republic of China for establishing missiles in the West Philippine Sea. By rejecting the Duterte administration's diplomatic approach, Robredo as President, called on PRC to recognize the Philippines vs China arbitral ruling before forging any agreements with the Philippines & also called for transparency in government-sponsored deals with PRC.
*Robredo aggressively continued the full modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines & building credible defense around the country's waters.
Infrastructure: Robredo continued the Build!Build!Build! infrastructure program, but she also prioritized public-private partnerships & the Robredo administration also made sure that proposed infrastructure projects were under one program with strong effectiveness.

Between May 29th-31st, 2019: President Robredo made her second international trip by going to Japan: attending the Nikkei's International Conference on the Future of Asia & held a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Robredo accompanied 5 of her Cabinet members on the trip.

Among the other international highlights of the Robredo administration:
*June 21st-23rd, 2019 (Thailand): Attended the 34th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit & joined fellow leaders in discussing a wide range of regional issues. Robredo also attended several important events during the summit, which included the Summit Plenary, Gala Dinner for the leaders, Leaders' Retreat & the 13th Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit.
*August 28th-September 1st, 2019 (Argentina): State Visit of the Argentine Republic, where Robredo met with Argentine President Mauricio Macri at Quinta de Olivos & addressed a joint session of the National Congress of Argentina.
*October 1st-5th, 2019 (Russia): Met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister Dimitri Medvedev, Jordanian King Abdullah II & chess grandmaster Anatoly Karpov.
*October 21st-22nd, 2019 (Japan): Attended the enthronement ceremony of Japanese Emperor Masahito.
*November 1st-4th, 2019 (Thailand): Attended the 35th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Nonthaburi, Thailand.
*November 25th-27th, 2019 (Republic of Korea): Robredo attended the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit in Busan, Republic of Korea. President Robredo held a bilateral meeting with Republic of Korea President Moon Jae-in discussing wide-ranging spectrum of issues such as education, free trade, fisheries.
