Politicians and Government Cringe Thread

A New Jersey Democratic Political Consultant named Sean Caddle did an oopsie.

Washington Free Beacon said:
A Democratic political consultant has pleaded guilty to hiring two men to murder a longtime associate.

Sean Caddle, who worked on campaigns in 2013 and 2017 for New Jersey state senator Ray Lesniak (D.), on Tuesday admitted to one count of conspiracy to commit murder. In 2014, the New Jersey native paid out-of-state conspirators thousands of dollars to travel to the Jersey City home of former associate Michael Galdieri, stab Galdieri, and set his apartment on fire. It is unclear what the motive was.

Senator Elizabeth Warren apparently sent an official letter to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy to suppress search results regarding a book titled 'The Truth About Covid-19' which was released by Chelsea Greene Publishing. Now Senator Warren is facing a lawsuit from Chelsea Greene Publishing regarding her using her political pressure and influence to allegedly censor said book.

I wish them luck with their lawsuit.

I'm amazed by how blatant they are becoming with their censorship.

They have deluded themselves into a "We are the Vanguard of Progress, We have a right to do these things for the Greater Good". Once you enter that sort of delusion of it becomes easy to justify the most horrendous of behavior as a necessary step for the future.

we were better off during the days when this sort had actual religion, it at least put some limitations on their actions.

Well they did in the 80's and 90's and tbh they were just as bad then. Like back then they were trying to censor everything that they considered "Satanic" its just now they still exist but are woke instead of religious and everything is "racist" instead of "satanic". Time is a flat circle.

Note that back in the 80's and 90's, those moves towards censorship were generally 'get this out of the schools, off of the broadcast waves, and publicly-funded libraries.' Not 'this isn't allowed to exist anywhere at all, and we'll ruin you for saying anything in support of it.'

In that era knocking it off the airwaves was the same as what is going on now also the nut jobs tried to ban books then too its the same bullshit in new colors and lets not pretend its anything else. Self righteous cocksuckers are always the downfall of freedom.

People of that sort never had religion; they just pretended to so that they could more easily exploit it.
Yes they did. At least some.

My Grandma is very Christian and was entirely convinced my Yu-gi-oh! cards had demons in them...

In theory they are still in storage somewhere... in practice I haven't seen my keepsake card in nearly two decades now...

Well, also, "and anyone under my authority at all is not going to be reading/playing/seeing them, no I don't care that it's their line to the only friends they ever managed to make."

No, it wasn't better because they weren't pushing for legislation about it in private homes... especially not when it was before the Internet. Frankly, if they were still the loud voice for censorship, they'd be yelling at Twitter and Youtube and Facebook for being too permissive.

That's a problem of bad parenting, which will always be with us, though some steps can be made to mitigate it.

And it's entirely possible such people would be (and some are) yelling at Twitter, Youtube, et al. Note that the culture war has become increasingly toxic over the years, and I wonder what they would or would not have pushed for if they happened back then.

Back in the 90's, the censorious types on the right didn't try to force cable companies not to carry channels they didn't think should exist, but they did try to push legislation that would force them to offer 'ala carte' per-channel purchase options, so objectionable channels didn't get bundled in with non-objectionable ones. That's still somewhat authoritarian, but not to the same level as we're seeing now.

A guy named Kevin Gaughen won a write-in Campaign to become the Auditor of Silver Spring Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania last November.

Yet... nothing beyond mailing him a nice certificate has occurred in regards to the job he was elected for. No swearing in. No meetings. No Communication and certainly... no auditing.

I mean, let's be real, "ala carte" per channel purchase options are just generally a good idea.

But I note you haven't brought up Mr. Thompson and his push to outright ban violent video games.

Certainly, there were "sane" censorious evangelists, but there are, today, "sane" censorious SJW's, the "sane" ones aren't really objectionable, it's just argument over specifics.

This is the problem with the plan to retake the country from the ground up; local governments tend to treat the whole Democratic Republic thing as little more than a charade that they drop the moment it become inconvenient. In their minds, they are the oligarchs, and everyone else are serfs who are obligated to obey them.

Thompson was a johnny-come-lately who entered the fray after any serious chance at censoring such things had already failed.

He was basically a circus show.
