Not the Middle East technically, but stuff is happening in Central Asia.

I’d be curious to see if the somewhat frozen state of post soviet autocrats, and increasing Chinese investment produce a less stable Central Asia.

Though that may be worth its own thread.

The political unrest started on October 4th after a disputed parliamentary election due to allegations of vote buying and fraud that allegedly favored the incumbent political powers in Central Asia's only Democracy. The Central Elections Commission cancelled the results of the election after much street protests and on October 10th parliament voted a recently freed prisoner named Sadyr Japarov as Prime Minister. Meanwhile the President has declared a state of emergency and put troops on the streets.

Both the protests, parliament and much of the country are still divided however between supports of Japarov, the old party and even a secondary Prime Minister candidate named Omurbek Babonov.
