Hmmmm, well if we go by just film portrayals I'd lean towards the Stormtroopers since they are wearing armor and thus blows to the face or body will be negated somewhat. With the restriction to their mobility being offset by PoTA Gorillas not being much more agile/swift than the stuntmen playing them. If we assume the Planet of the Apes Gorillas have real world Gorilla's strength advantage to a normal human then they're going to curbstomp.

The PoTA Apes did not have clearly superior strength AFAIK. They might be a bit more marginally strong than Humans on average, especially the Gorillas perhaps but I remember watching the Ape Rebellion bits in Conquest of the Planet of the Apes and while the Apes were pretty good in overpowering their captors and the riot cops and the like, it wasn't like a clear superhuman advantage. Sometimes the Humans were able to put a whooping on the Apes even if the Apes seemed to win the melees more often then not.

With that said, Stormtroopers seem pretty trash in melee so I mean... Apes would still win IMHO.

That's pretty similar to how I saw it, as well. I never got the impression watching the films that the apes were supposed to be that much stronger than their human adversaries.
