In essence, when someone is consciously choosing to believe something that they know on a fundamental level is a lie, they are more and more likely to react viscerally to someone reminding them that the lie is, in fact, a lie.

Well, this means we have to assign you legal guardians, with you being underage and all. Of course, as an 8-year you are being functionally / legally incapacitated, so you can't make any decisions about yourself, nor drive or vote anymore, nor for that matter can you buy adult things like alcohol or cigarettes. You can't own property, nor can you enter into legal agreements, so no job, no bank account or money of your own either.
