October Video Game Releases

October starts off with a whimper with the release of FIFA 22 on October 1 - though in brighter news, Tandem: A Tale of Shadows and Rise of Humanity look like promising indie titles releasing that day.

On October 5, racing and minigame filled Super Monkey Ball BananaMania hits Steam, further proving SEGA's interest in putting titles that in the past would never have seen PC on the platform, and Castlevania dating parody Romancelvania also releases.

A week later, on October 12, Back 4 Blood gets a full release as a zombie slaying $60 game with DLC, seasons passes, battle passes, and lootboxes. Monetization ho! And from the same developers as failed game Evolve.

If you're a weeb and a shonen fan, you may be interested in Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, which releases on October 15. It essentially is a direct video game adaptation of the anime, but will likely include extra quests. It also includes online PVP.

On October 19, War Mongrels, an isometric real time tactics game taking place on the Eastern Front of WW2, releases. From the creators of Ancestors Legacy and Hatred, so expect it to be pretty edgy.

On October 21, Disciples Liberation releases. I don't know much about this game, other than that Disciples III is bundled a lot. It seems like its a Baldurs Gate like game thats getting a sequel after a long time.

On October 22, the third Dark Pictures Anthology release, House of Ashes, comes out. They've promised they won't again pull the same twist they've pulled at the end of the last two games.

Square Enix's Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy releases October 26. IIRC it was made by the same studio that's made the past few Deus Ex games.... I honestly don't know how I feel about it. I don't like nor recommend buying SQEX Western releases on release because they tend to go on sale very fast. But honestly, so far, this looks like it should be a decent game, especially since they've guaranteed no MTX or DLC.

October 28 is a pretty busy day. Age of Empires IV is the long awaited sequel to Microsoft's acclaimed RTS game series, another Vampire the Masquerade CYOA game, Parliament of Knives, releases on Steam, NASCAR 21 Ignition is yet ANOTHER racing game, and Nier creator Yoko Taro releases a video game that seems like a virtual card/tabletop game called Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars.

This is pretty much all the major releases for the month of October on Steam, so far as I know.

Oh neat I think I saw Rise of Humanity on Splattercat Gaming. A Card Game based mechanic for Human survival in a world overtaken by a nefarious AI or whatnot does seem interesting. Not sure it's my cup of tea, but with a game as out of left field as that, who really knows. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

Glanced at the trailer for Tandem. Another wait and see, I don't think I've been into gloomy Adventure style games much but might be worth scoping out a LP on. Certainly seems like it could have lots of potentials for fans of that genre.

Hatred was ridiculously edgy as fuck. And if Ancestors is the same RTS game that had that badass trailer and then seemed to kinda mostly disappear on arrival, then that sounds pretty accurate. Though I will say the idea of an edgy isometric RTS game taking place on the WW2 Eastern Front does sound rather appealing... Wait and see of course if I ever might wanna buy it.

Games are too spooky for me but I found someone to watch play and cower behind while watching it played. Both Man of Medan and Little Hope I feel seemed overall like pretty good games though still not as good as the original Wendigo Until Dawn one but we were disappointed at the end of Little Hope because somehow we got a party wipe at the very end and we're not even sure why.

Also the Curator is kinda obnoxious. I liked the Peter Stormare version a lot more from Until Dawn as he seemed more well integrated into the whole story. The new one seems even more Fourth Wall or Meta for me and just not as strong an actor/voice actor.

Probably will get this one too though I had to look up what the 'twist' at the end is. It makes sense.

Regardless I'm impressed that they are releasing this well made adventure style games once a year.

This the same group that released The Avengers stinker a few months back?

Yeah and they learned what NOT to do from that.
They seem to be focusing on you playing as Star lord alone
