So, My Adventures with Superman, the new Superman animated series just dropped with a two episode pilot. The first episode is even available for free on youtube, which I have provided. Saw both episodes, and honestly its pretty good. Pointless racebending aside all the reimaginings are good, animation is solid, there is a fun plot lined out, and they're not wasting time on a romantic triangle with Clark and Lois. I'm actually looking forward to what comes next, which is not a feeling I've had in a long time. Figured I'd start a discussion thread to see what everyone else thinks.

He seems to have reviewed the first two episodes which are better written then most of what comes next. I'm waiting for the season to end to complain, but the writers seem to be unable to walk and chew bubblegum at the same time and its really dragged the show down.

I've liked the show overall. While it has it's issues, mainly that many of the villains and their designs are rather... generic... the writers at least nailed Clark, Lois, and Jimmy and the relation between them. This is not a deconstruction or dark take on The Man of Tomorrow, this is the Big Blue Boyscout in all his country bumkin goody two shoes glory.

Alright, upon review I'm probably going to be kinder on this one than I expected, but I still need a place to store this.

honestly, for me, at least the big turn-off is the short hair and the radom piercings. Why can't Westerners have Amazon gals who like to wear their hair long? The problem with the Japanese anime girl is that her eyes are too big and her nose is non-existent

I happen to like short hair, but for me a fit woman looks like the one on the right, and I'm only assuming the one on the left is supposed to be an actual woman and not an example of "it's ma'am."

The frustrating thing with the posted images is that the same show actually does know how to draw female characters.

Cat Grant... clearly feminine.

Lois_Lane.png

Lois Lane, clearly female build. She might be a tomboy in this version but she's also clearly female, you'd have to do a major redesign of her torse to confuse her with a boy.

Vicki_vale_profile.jpg

Vicky Vale is pulling a classic "hot reporter" look.

And for some other body types:

Martha Kent is consistently portrayed as a little chubby in the "midwestern housewife" sense, but also clearly female with a obvious bust and curves.

They also CAN do a more muscular/large woman body without looking masculine, as shown here:

Who is this... well, once she's out of the army and dons a powersuit you should recognize her:

Again, overweight... black... female... in a powersuit. Yup, that's Amanda Waller as she's traditionally appeared.

I have seen the frist few epsoides up till the one with the Guild of Lois.

Overall not a bad take on superman. It is a bit different that Superman doesn't know about his history and power while starting at the Daily Planet. But it works and is different enough to be a dcent hook.

The villains have been interesting and I like Waller. She is one of my favorite D.C. villains. The conspiracy behind everything also provides a decent framwork for teing together weekly episodes.

I also like that Jimmy has a greater role in the show. With some many series expanding side characters it is nice to see Jimmy get a bigger focus. I will say that he did get the Hollywood Red Head treatment but at this point I am more surprised if it didn't happen.
