Here's to new content to throw at the big screen!

Not only will Oscar Isaac play the titular hero of the video game franchises film adaption, but Sony Pictures has also chosen a director and screenwriter as well. Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of the Sundance Indie film The Kings of Summer and Kong: Skull Island has been selected to direct this film. He states he's a fan of the video game series and has met Hideo Kojima about the film project.

Derek Connolly is the main screenwriter and has written drafts or scripts (credited and uncredited) for such exceptional films like Pacific Rim: Uprising as well as Jurassic World and its sequel Fallen Kingdom and also worked on Kong: Skull Island. Somehow he's also managing to help write the screenplay for a Flight of the Navigator remake as well.

The production date start is still unknown and could very likely change due to the very busy schedule of Oscar Isaac in particular, who has like fifty projects lined up in the next few years.

« Kept you waiting uh? »

I am curious on which time period it will focus on.
Considering it’s solid, we might start at shadow moses, or Outer heaven/Zanzibar.

I forgot

Movies based on videogames tend to be shit, right

Well, pacific rim uprising wasn't, but it was almost not what I'd call good. I've not seen the new jurassic park films, but from what I know they're doing the Aliens plot of "let's use this horrible monster as a weapon cause it's super deadly, even though humans are even more deadly" thing.

As a fan of the original Pacific Rim, this is insulting.

I have no hope for this movie. I can't think of any video game movies that were good (Detective Pikachu was decent at best), and the state of Hollywood is abysmal. There is hardly anything within the last 5 years I wanted to see.

Here’s one piece of advice that others have given me before on series I admittedly still liked

Treat only “Part 1” as canon and ignore the rest

What about anime film adaptation of video games? I heard the Professor Layton film was pretty good. Same with the Animal Crossing film.

Never saw either of those.

The Pokemon anime doesn't really try to adapt the plots of the game, unlike your usual video game adaptation. They are their own thing. They just happen to be anime set in the Pokemon universe (and honestly develop the Pokemon universe better than the games do).
