Max von Sydow, a Swedish born actor whose film career began in 1955, starred in eleven Ingmar Bergman films including The Seventh Seal, as well as over a hundred other films and television shows over his sixty plus year career including roles in The Exorcist as Father Mirren, Game of Thrones as the Three Eyed Raven, Star Wars: The Force Awakens as that old guy in the beginning of the movie, and in David Lynch's Dune as Dr. Liet-Kynes.

His most notable role of course was as the aged Judge Fargo in 1995's Judge Dredd.

He also did voice work for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and was the original casting choice for the supervillain Dr. No in... Dr. No.

According to a Charlie Rose interview back in 2012, the agnostic/atheistic Max Von Sydow stated that Ingmar Bergman had told him that upon the latters death, he would contact Max and inform him there was an afterlife. Max then responded that Ingmar had contacted him... but refused to elaborate...

Max Von Sydow had two children plus two more from his second wife's previous marriage.

You can look over his filmography and you'll just be simply amazed at all of the different films he starred in. If he had anything approaching an archetypical character, it was probably the motif of the haunted/tortured character, especially in his later roles. But he still had such range from campy action and horror to historical dramas and science fiction thrillers.

For most it's a death sentence, for him it was a twenty four year long retirement plan. 😇
