Since this thread doesn't already exist and after replaying the trilogy recently I decided to start it.

Okay so my idea for a Mass Effect fanfic that I have been working on for awhile now in abridged terms is essentially a situation where we have a "Terran Federation" that has been in space for around 800 years minimum when it makes contact with the citadel. In this version of events Humans are far more developed and have been in space for sometime when they make first contact. Perhaps the most critical part of this theoretical story is that the scale for all of the races is dramatically increased to the point that a conventional war against the reapers is feasible so long as they don't take the citadel and shut down the relays.

I don't know if it would interest you or not, but I did a thread on hypothetically adapting Mass Effect as a series. My main problem is that while I'd adapt the first game pretty faithfully, I wouldn't adapt much of the other two games since the second was basically a reboot, and I disliked most of the third one, especially the ending, so I'd need something else to do for an overarching plot. All I know is that it will involve Shepard working out a plan to get as many of the aliens working together as possible to beat the Reapers conventionally, by building off the assumption this is even possible, and that the first game basically foiled the linchpin of the Reapers invasion plan by making it impossible to shut down the mass relays and thus isolate everyone to beat them one at a time. This would in turn allow everyone to concentrate everything on cornering the Reapers and beating them.

For me I would go with something like the original plot where the reapers existed to fight dark matter based lifeforms and were losing. But I'd also scale all of the races up to where beating them conventionally was possible because I hate the superweapon trope. Also I'd use POV's and make Shepherd less important, Basically he'd just be one of many characters that all contributed to the war. I think I would have the war last a very long time like decades but the readers would only see the major battles for the most part and the rest of the grind would be sort of glossed over.

I've always viewed Shepherd as a Harbinger and possibly the Fulcrum that gets sacrificed to provide 'leverage'. I never bought the Savior ideal with Shepherd. Didn't seem to fit in the universe.

I think having multiple POV's would make things easier, Also I'd have Shep be more like a real world tier one operator in that he wouldn't be a public figure that everyone recognized and knew.
