'Marvelous' Marvin Hagler, a legendary Middleweight Boxer, died at the age of 66. He was the undisputed Middleweight Champion for most of the eighties, from 1980 to 1987 and had fifty two career knockouts. Notable for having one of the most durable 'chins' in history, he was only knocked down once in his career which spanned over sixty five professional fights and finished with a record of 62-3-2. Even that knockdown, which occurred during a 1984 bout versus Argentine fighter Juan Roldan, was arguably a slip.

Between March of 1976 and April of 1987, Marvin Hagler won thirty five fights in a row (with one split decision draw) including knocking down contender and boxing gold medalist Sugar Ray Seales three times in eighty seven seconds, a third round TKO of then Middleweight Champion Alan Minter of Great Britain, avenging his Split Decision Draw against Italy's Vito Antuofermo, a unanimous decision victory over Roberto Duran and a third round TKO over Thomas 'Hitman' Hearns.

Marvin Hagler's last professional bout was against Sugar Ray Leonard. In a highly controversial Split Decision, Sugar Ray Leonard became the first person to defeat Hagler in over ten years and while Sugar Ray Leonard denied it, Hagler claims that as they embraced after the bell, Sugar Ray Leonard reportedly admitted to Hagler "You beat me man." Cameras support Hagler's take on the embrace. Hagler wanted a rematch, but Sugar Ray Leonard retired (for the third of five times in his career) so after waiting fourteen months, Hagler decided to retire from boxing. One month later, Sugar Ray Leonard returned to boxing and by then Hagler stated he was done with boxing and moved on with his life.

The Ring magazine named Marvin Hagler the Fighter of the Decade (the 1980's), was honored as the Fighter of the Year twice (1983 & 1985), was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame in 1993, was named by The Ring Magazine as the fourth greatest middleweight boxer of all time and the 17th Greatest Boxer of All Time. Boxrec meanwhile puts him in the top 30.

After boxing, Marvin Hagler pursued a career in cinema, starring in several Italian films like Indio, boxing commentary and lending his likeness and experience to boxing video games.

Here is Hagler executing his 78% Knockout Rate in less then a minute.
