The day was bright and sunny before a shining building of white, a picturesque scene if not for the starkly unfolding chaos below, blood ran, individuals were bruised and bloodied, even as hundreds of footsteps ran up the steps and into the capital building.
"How did it come to this?" Everyone asks that these days. The election of 2020 was perhaps one the most derisive to go down in American history and for good reason, even before the outcome was announced a deeply partisan nation fought each other tooth and nail over differing views of the furure, but the real bombshell was a series of unforeseen events that catapulted the nation into insanity...
The main shocker of early 2020 wasn't decided by those who ran for office though, but by those who noticeably didn't by dropping out.
Joeseph Robinnette Biden Jr. called 'Joe' by everybody else be they his friends, family, or even enemies, was always the favored golden child of the Democratic ticket in 2020. He was a known factor within the party, had strong ties with the establishment and furthermore was moderate enough to not disrupt the status quo within the left while also being liberal enough that most of the more socialist oriented wing of the party would fall in line should he win the nomination, that combined with a history of recognition as the Vice President of the fairly popular Obama administration meant that Biden had reason to believe his candidacy was assured...
But history tells us that is not how things went, for you can see as per usual the nature of fate threw its wrench in historical events when least expected.
Even as Biden was campaigning vigorously and growing in popularity amongst the left while debating his peers and attacking the failings of 45th President of the United States Donald J. Trump he could tell something felt deeply wrong. That intuitive thought only was confirmed by reality when a slight pain had begun in his abdomen during the opening phase of the Tenth Democratic debate on February 25th and he realized the problem may be more than just a stomachache.
Within days Biden made a discrete visit to the hospital where it was discovered that a tumor had formed in his stomach. Physicians attending to him then informed the now aging vice-president that it could plausibly be removed and treated with chemotherapy over the next few months saving his life, but there were no guarantees of sucess, and any significant stress or excessive work could complicate the condition or exacerbate it.
This of course all greatly discouraged Biden on a personal level as by this point, he felt he had a personal obligation to in his mind 'Save America' from Trump who he felts rise was a byproduct of his and Obama's personal failings in not aiding more of the American people where it mattered from 2008 to 2016.
However, Biden also realized by this point that he had a duty not just to his country, but also to himself, his friends and family to not run in this election as a liability against all of them.
And so, on February 28th in a move which shocked the nation major Democratic candidate Joe Biden in a tear given speech apologized to his supporters and formally withdrew from the primaries while giving no endorsements.
