Dave Brandt of Fairfield County, Ohio passed away from complications as a result of a vehicle accident at the age of 76.
He was a farmer and agriculturist who was well regarded and respected for his experimentation with various agricultural practices on his farm. Having been a farmer for most of his life (and also a Vietnam War Veteran) he helped develop practices relating to no-till farming out of necessity when he was forced to sell his previous farm and start over being unable to afford very much equipment.
His no-till farming attracted admirers and experts from around the world as his method of minimizing the disturbance of the soil increased the amount of organic matter in the soil as well as dramatically reducing "input" costs in regards to farming.
And yes, it was his quote on the meme. Beyond said meme, he apparently also left a legacy regarding soil conservation and health.
His wife passed away in 2020. He was working at his farm, the 736 acre Walnut Creek Seeds, with his son, daughter-in-law and grandson where they farm no-till and cover crops.
