Culture I'm not Starefire?

From clownfish TV:

"There has been a preview released for 'I Am Not Starfire,' the YA graphic novel by DC Comics that features Starfire's frumpy gay goth daughter. It looks very much like a Tumblr webcomic, and honestly, DC Comics has NO chance in hell of beating Manga or even competing head to head with other YA graphic novel publishers like Scholastic Graphix. Meanwhile, the Demon Slayer manga sold 82 MILLION COPIES in Japan this year."

I'd had been way more interesting had this been Raven's daughter trying to break out of her mothers angsty shadow and embrace her demonic heritage while rejecting the whole evil gig. Could even explain why she's fat if her powers are derived from gluttony. You'd get some kind of cool heavy metal Spawnesque or hellboy type heroine with a big personality.....naw that requires actual medium and we all know these people are too good for those "Cheesy" Superhero comics.

I've seen the, ah, "author" of this comic.

It's practically a self-insert, and I guarantee you the "unpopular, fat goth chick becoming friends with the pretty, presumably straight cheerleader-type and then falling in love" thing is her wish fulfillment of her own high-school experience.

To say this is a fucking embarrassment for DC is an understatement.

What is with all these people's obsession with highschool? (and to a lesser extent college?) both my high school and my college years sucked.

A lot of people peaked in high-school or they consider it the key/best part of their lives. Adulthood (the period after, or going into college/university) doesn't live up to their expectations.

With Americans it's divided into middle and high-schools: in the UK, it's just high-school (11--16/18).

I'm guilty of sometimes wishing I were back in high-school, sometimes. I had some good times then, despite how unpopular I was. Life was simpler then.

It is exactly that and I don't think the author has been subtle about it. Why DC has gone along with it is...I can't begin to understand.

All of the big entertainment corporations in the West have been converged.

SJWs know that their message is unappealing and no one wants to hear them. So they have to take over someone else's pre-established platform that people like and use that to preach to people. So what happens is they infiltrate companies through the HR department, and hire their friends and gatekeep so that the company is slowly taken over. They don't care about making a profit; it's about sending a message. They will run their company into the ground if it means sending their message.

I don't think they infiltrate only via the HR Departments

I mean lots of established authors/artists may be sympathetic, though obviously their idea of SJW depending on their mood is far more palatable and subtle and they'd still make an effort

These new guys probably come cheap

a message that they themselves aren't even good at sending? Undertale had a few LGBTQ characters...they were actually interesting.

So what this amounts to is a shitty high school AU of the sort that overflow FFN.

i prefer stuff that just has it happen without comment, watching mr robot rn and the most they've commented on it was having the mc's boss say he was gay as he was inviting him over for dinner, just so her was aware

You just outlined my feelings about the motivations of individuals who do what they do because they didn't get it during high school.
They never grew up. they still burn with resentment over the stupid shit other children did to them.
Some of them may go to jail and end up on a sex offender's list I reckon.

It was too for me. I can redo something and try other opportunities.

Now that I think about it, maybe I will draw a rough concept in the creative writing forum.

It says something that Starfire is one of my favorite superheroes, but I have absolutely no interest in reading this story about her "daughter". Less politically correct high school drama and more intergalactic royal succession drama would be nice.

You know, I don’t get how this is YA or Young Adult, the YA I used to read when younger was almost all action

What is it with this weird “family story”?
