In the end of last month, Sérgio Moro, Brazilian Justice Minister, resigned, citing interference on part of President Jair Bolsonaro regarding the Federal Police(Moro had said the breaking point was disregarding his choice for a new Federal Police head). Moro had implied that this interference had to do with investigations on one of Bolsonaro's sons. As a note, rejecting Moro's choice was fully within Bolsonaro's rights, since there is a law stating appointing the head of the Federal Police is the prerogative of the President, so Moro couldn't accuse Bolsonaro of any crime; he tried to frame it as the President doing an immoral thing, though.
A few days later, Moro's lawyer said that he had the recordings of a ministerial meeting where Bolsonaro's interference was proven; supposedly Bolsonaro had said he wanted to make changes in Federal Police assignments, to 'protect' his family. Moro's lawyer also leaked small pieces of the recording(it's a 1 hour 54 minutes-long reunion), which showed 'explosive' things, like Bolsonaro calling São Paulo State Governor João Dória '(a pile of) shit' and Rio de Janeiro State Governor Wilson Witzel '(a pile of) manure', as well as Education Minister Abraham Weintraub saying 'If it was up to me, I would arrest all those crooks - beginning with the Supreme Court'.
The Supreme Court, which members dislike Bolsonaro both personally and for ideological reasons, and which has been favorable to suits asking for the reduction of the powers of the President of the Republic ever since Bolsonaro was sworn in(in Brazil, the Constitution says what the members of the Supreme Court say it does - that's why I have a profound dislike for the 'Constitution is a living document' argument), ordered that the recording was to be delivered to them. Meanwhile, left-leaning parties were asking for the recording(again, a recording of a private ministerial meeting) to be made public, sure that the revelations within would finally provide evidence to start an impeachment process.
Yesterday, after the markets closed, Judge Celso de Mello(who is scheduled to retire on September and has taken point on efforts to make Bolsonaro powerless) released the full recording. Surprisingly, the above-mentioned proof of interference wasn't there - he was talking about the bodyguards of his family members, which are Federal Police agents. But there were things like this:
Also, this:
And many, many others(which haven't been subbed yet). As a result, the Bolsonaro base is fully behind him again, screaming "Bolsonaro reeleito!"(next Presidential election will be in 2022), and the Education Minister is being considered for running for the São Paulo State Governorship(also in 2022)...
