Basically, humanity is given Post-Scarcity levels of technology by a massive ancient alien “probe” that tells them that they MUST use all of this heavily advanced technology and knowledge to upgrade themselves and move out into the galaxy, lest they become victims of an unknown eldritch threat that chases after organic-sapient life to consume their souls
They are told that this threat has consumed many other species that they have failed to reach in time
Also, the “upgrade” involves uploading themselves and becoming Androids or AI, because this existential threat only goes after souls residing within organic bodies
The information is spread across the world and even the internet and no one has a monopoly on it and the probe comes with functions to try and maybe stop a planet wide civil war
