"Started hearing f*** this, f*** that. The word came up quite a bit," said Rowin.
With no one around him, Rowin, who is gay, realized the slurs were being directed at him.
"I yelled back a couple of things, 'Hey, that's f*** up!'" said Rowin.
Moments later, he heard footsteps behind him.
As he turned around, he says he caught a quick glimpse of one of the people, a man in his 20s or 30s. At the same time, he says a liquid was thrown at him, with the consistency of water.
"Immediately after that, I went up like coals on a barbecue. It started off really big," said Rowin.
On fire, Rowin says stopped, dropped, and rolled on the cement, patting himself and quickly putting out the flames.
The real story? Well, cops answered a call about a man attacking a pregnant woman around 10:40 PM PT on June 12.

The beating caused bleeding and injuries. The police had to transport her to the hospital.

About 90 minutes later, the police got a phone call about a man claiming someone had set him on fire. That man is Scott Rowin. The video recovered by the police shows another story:

"Investigators determined that this man was the suspect who battered the pregnant woman from the earlier incident at 900 6th Avenue," police said. "Investigators have since determined the pregnant female was responsible for the burn injuries."
Detectives have since located security footage San Diego Police say shows the "initial physical assault by the man on the pregnant woman and the subsequent use of fire as a weapon by the pregnant woman on the man."
Rowin is the latest reason why people take hate crime reports with a grain of salt. It seems the hate crimes that don't get attention are the real ones. We don't know which ones to report on.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are investigating after they say a man who said he was a victim of a hate crime was shown on video assaulting a pregnant woman.

According to San Diego Police, officers received calls about a man attacking a pregnant woman on the 900 block of 6th Avenue just after 10:40 p.m. on June 12.

"Officers were dispatched and arrived within minutes, but the suspect had already fled the scene," the department said.

The department said the woman was bleeding and suffering from injuries when officers arrived. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Just before midnight, police received a report on the 1200 block of Market Street from a man who said he was set on fire, the department said.

Upon investigating, San Diego Police Department have disclosed that CCTV footage captured Rowin beating a pregnant woman, bloodying her & causing injuries that required hospitalization. Rowin fled the scene. The footage shows it was she who set him on fire during the attack.

Yeah it looks like he confessed rather quickly as well, since the article stated he admitted it was a self inflicted gunshot wound while at the hospital. Plus it wasn't perpetrated for malicious or ideological reasons but self centered ones.

The Connecticut Supreme Court. I'm not too surprised. This was a federal case under the Second District Court of Appeals. They found that whether the defendant could be added to the case depended on a particular part about state law, something that wasn't obvious or decided. So, as Federal Courts do in these cases, the Court of Appeals asks the highest court in the state what the state law means, as that's the final authority on state law, not SCOTUS.

So to summarize, there was a federal district court ruling, that was appealed, the appeals court said "maybe depends on X, Hey Connecticut SC, which way does X work?". Now knowing this, it goes back down the system, the Appeals court will tell the district to add the accuser to the lawsuit, and then the lawsuit will go forward in district court with an additional defendant.

The victim of the reported hit and run said he was walking home from eating lunch when a car slowed down and rolled down the window. On Thursday, 27-year-old Jaifeng Chen was arrested in Arizona after he allegedly spray-painted swastikas on Hanukkah decorations and the wall outside of the Chabad of Kalamazoo in Michigan.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said that the FBI worked in coordination with other law enforcement agencies in Arizona to locate and ultimately arrest the Chinese national. He was also booked on an unrelated charge on Nov. 27, according to WTVB. Chen is now in federal custody.

In a statement to WWMT, police said, "The investigation into the incidents that occurred here in Kalamazoo is ongoing. Once complete, the investigation will be forwarded to the appropriate authority seeking charges."

Officers said they "don't know what his motivation was" in the act, but that he is also accused of spray painting other racist graffiti around Kalamazoo Valley Community College's Arcadia Commons campus.

"He was difficult to identify for us because he had no real ties to Kalamazoo," said Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief Dave Boysen. "He'd only been here for about a month. He's kind of been all over the country."

The vandalism took place on the night of Nov. 17 and the community immediately worked together to clean it up. Rabbi Haller told the outlet, "We do good things and positive things and in the long-run, the light prevails."

"They're not going to push us away...if anything, they're going to make us stronger," he said.

In a statement, Haller's wife, Dobroshe said, "Thank you for the outpouring of love and support." She added, "We will try to remove the graffiti and pray together for our brothers and sisters in the holy land and for peace everywhere; including here and Kalamazoo."

Since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, antisemitism has been on the rise in the United States.
