General Gaming Thread

Agree to disagree.
My argument is basically as follows.
>We used to be able to do stuff
>Now we cannot do this stuff (either by braindrain or competency crisis)
>This is not good!
We do, indeed, still have mirrors.

Infinitely better mirrors than anything on the wii, even.

You're neglecting that we need like 30x the processing power to do the damned same thing as 2007 games...That's not good! It's inefficient, and frankly gluttonous.
Not to mention as raytracing exclusive you can't do it with say, a 1080ti, which absolutely could manage mirrors in it's day.

Except it is literally nothing like the games in 2007. Because it actually works well.

And no, no 1080tis could not, in fact, handle proper mirrors.

That's weird, because Red Faction back in like 2001 had functioning mirrors and that was well before the 1080Ti

Must've been magic! Alchemy! Lmao.

Cope, seethe. :V

Cyberpunk is no less the tarded mess it was at launch, just that the actual gamebreaking bugs and comically bad perks were fixed up.
They somehow turned what was supposed to be a Deus-Ex-esque immersive-sim RPG into Borderlands with cyborg crackheads.
...Oh wait, that's basically just Borderlands...Oops?

You know what? At least that's better than Starfield, it has that going for it?

I sure do love how shooting crackheads somehow magically makes my guns less powerful though, so I have to pick up super-new crackhead guns which propel bullets harder somehow.
Except it isn't. It is a game where you can leverage and build your character the way you want. With so many options for one to take, none are 100 percent set in stone.
It isn't just shooting crackheads. It's sneaking through buildings finding intel or saving people. It's having to pacify a cyberpsycho person, while they are trying to kill you.
Having to talk to cars to get them to return home
so much more then what you said.
have you ever actually played it?

Except the mirrors then are doffrent from tje mirrors now. From what I understand it wasn't a reflection they used because of how complicated that was back then.

But then again that's Vyors speciality

I've beaten it twice, both runs were comically boring and underwhelming. Cyberpunk is the embodiment of a supercar with a fabulous bodykit and rocking an inline 4 cylinder with 50 horses behind it.

Lets not beat around the bush here.
A game rocking a fucking Voodoo card could manage mirrors while games intended for cards with tens of times the processing power cannot handle mirrors, because of vague and continuously altering reasons.

It's an embarrassment to the medium as a whole and it's really quite sad that people defend it. Imagine if in 2024 we found ourselves unable to build paintbrushes anymore. "Oh well we can do it with photoshop, who needs REAL paintbrushes anyways! A real artist needs a 1000$ computer, who wants to settle for a 10 dollar paintbrush set?"

Friend of mine posted this in relation to the thread, exactly my fucking point. XD Normies will slurp up slop that would be considered a farce back in the day.

Not sure if anybody here has played it before, but Steel Division 2 is a really fucking good RTS game.

Has more DLC than modern people have braincells, but you can just pick whatever one has a particular division you like and ignore the others. Or find em on discount.

It's a good blend of gameplay and realism, units have proper penetration/armor values, artillery has huge range, infantry can be bastards if they're dug-in a forest or city.

Plus there's just so, fucking, many, units.

Oh Starcraft 2 has Marines as infantry? You ain't got shit on Steel Division. Just off the top of my head. Without consulting google/wiki.

Panzergrenadiers.
Stosstruppen.
Pioneers.
Avtomatchiki.
Basic Rifles.
Ersatztruppen.
Strafniki.
Saperi.
Volksturm.
Sicherungs.
Walkure.
Falschirmjager Jager.

And I think ingame there's over 10x that diversity of infantry alone, it's nuts!
The fucking game has more tank units than SC2 has units in total! And their differences actually fucking matter instead of just being HP/Damage modifiers!

It's basically like the wargame.series but in ww2
Pretty darn much, yep! ;D
But that makes it play quite a lot differently, no helicopters, guided munitions, etc.
But you do get more variation in other aspects because of it.

Iirc it is literally made by the wargame developers.
So it is just world war 2 wargame

Been binging more Stellaris lately, probably my favorite Paradox game because of just how many stupid sci fi tropes are in it.

I managed to create a species that has all three 'auto-mod' traits.

For context species have traits like "Industrious: +10% engineering research" "Agrarian: 10% farming output" and so on.

Later in the game you unlock a couple of traits that enable each individual to alter their trait to best fit the job they're doing. Your species can be good at science, farming, mining AND generator electricity at the same time.

There's three such traits that do this, one is with a special origin called overtuned where you get super good traits but it eats away the lifespan of your leaders. The other two are unlocked later.

Taking the overtuned trait with the overtuned origin, then becoming a cyborg lets you get the cyborg trait as well, then once you get the cyborg trait you'll gain enough biological enhancement points to get the organic version additionally!

Three fucking traits which best-suit the jobs your population is doing is fucking bonkers.

Satire is funny when people understand and remember it's satire. I think it's awfully boring when people take it seriously or oversaturate it.

Like...40k has 'humanity fuck yeah!' in it as well, but it's not JUST humanity fuck yeah moments. There's space elves, space communists, space bugs, space mushrooms. In that respect I think it's way more neat than Helldivers...

Well, Stalker 2 plays and looks like ass for the requirements it needs.

That's great, another one of my beloved series going down the shitter thanks to the competency crisis and modern politics. X_X

Unreal Engine 5 is a developer noobtrap.

... Stalker 1 also ran like complete ass.

Also: are you using nvidia, per chance?
It runs just like the first game
>The bar was already low almost two decades ago
>Therefore the bar must remain low!
Yeah no thanks, I think I'll demand the bar to be raised.

Nice attempt at keeping the status quo an eternal shitfest though <3
Once again: are you running a nvidia GPU?
... do you think AMD and Nvidia drivers are the exact same or something?
they aren't. but people play on both. if games aren't building for that that is a problem. I personally care more about the gameplay loop than graphics. so if a game is fun and is basically a spreadsheet I'm fine with it. if a game is god tier graphics but I need to sit through a half an hour DEI course and the gameplay is the same as 12 others who did it better I don't give a fuck any more. I got my PS2. I got my physical media. I got my command and conquer. I got Age of empires. I have a hundred games that I can put 1000s of hours into because I enjoy them. if all you got is shit version of X but they look prettier I don't care.
Yeah, so nvidia's drivers suck absolute ass for proper DX12 and Vulkan.

This is nvidia's fault, not the game devs.

So, kindly don't start a typewriting war y'all.

On the subject of STALKER 2 requirements...they are a tad bit too much and I am probably going to play the game WHEN I have the money to purchase a more powerful laptop (I need space and also it's much easier to resell a laptop than a beast of a FIXED gaming computer) because the atmosphere, lore and mechanics of the game are top-notch BUT the fact that it needs 32 GB RAMS to be played in its RECOMMENDED STATE makes me immediately return my attention to my over 300/400 games backlog.
