In efforts to decrease my backlog, I decided to post a challenge here this week for me to play one game a day, Monday to Friday, and post my thoughts on it here.

List of Games to Play:
Patchwork
Open Sorcery
Lots of Chess Games (Think Zen Chess like stuff)
HROT
Cheap Golf
The Norwood Suite
She Sees Red

List of Completed Games:
Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: The Case of the Mystified Murderess (Not Recommended)
Planet of the Eyes (Recommend, Buy on Sale)
Her Lie I Tried To Believe (Recommended, It's Free, But You're Probably Going To Want The Extended Edition)

Hopefully this will be entertaining.

I played Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: The Case of the Mystified Murderess

Its a murder mystery investigation FMV game where you watch different investigative videos to try and get enough information to solve a crime. Each video costs points. The goal is to use as few points as possible. Choosing a dead-end option costs more points than a correct option.

After you believe you have enough information, you can challenge the judge, and you have to answer several questions correctly to tie it all together and finish the case.

I would say that it suffers from the general problem of many Point & Click games and mystery games in general - frequently you feel that you have enough information to put things together, but its "gamey" in the sense that it often requires you to get more clues before you need the solution.

Once you've played it through once, the only thing left to do is attempt to find the perfect 55 point solution, but said solution is not necessarily intuitive.

The game took me about 90 minutes.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend this game, unless you really love the idea of an FMV mystery.

You should play nethack as a tourist.

It's the joke character and starts with something most other character classes need a wand of wishing or magic lamp just to get: a Hawaiian shirt.

A smart tourist takes off their shirt before they do anything else because that shirt is 7 points of armour once it's fully enchanted that you usually can't get without blowing several wishes.

Then there's the quest artifact: The Platinum Yendorian Express Card. That wand of death you randomly found can now be recharged pretty much at will instead of being reserved for dire emergencies.

Not really into ASCII graphics, though I added Nethack:Legacy to the wishlist.

Anyway, I went and finished Planet of the Eyes.

Its a decent puzzle planetformer. About 100 minutes long. I'd recommend it on its 99 cent sales.

Of course, this means I have to add something else to the list to make it a game a day this week.

When you play nethack don't expect to win. A good player has about a 1% chance winning and YASD (Yet Another Stupid Death) is a nethack meme.

EDIT: an excellent player expects to win and might do something like a weaponless samurai just for shits and giggles. The game isn't hard, it just requires paying attention to all the details.

So. I played Her Lie I Tried To Believe.

Unless you like sad and depressing romances with a happy helping (ironic phrasing) of edge and grimdark, I would recommend avoiding it.

If you like extremely dark psychological emotional rollercoasters, you might want to try it out.

I'm definitely going to buy the longer extended edition (not free, like the original version I played) eventually. Simply because I need emotional closure.

Seriously, I feel scarred, like I just got turned down by a girl I was really close to all over again.

I'd also recommend planning to watch something really funny afterwards as mind bleach. Seriously, I do not want to go to bed right after reading this, I have bad enough dreams as it is.

This is a noble goal worthy of emulation.

i must ponder doing something similar.

Unfortunately, I did not manage to complete any games on Tuesday; I had too little time after work.

I did, however, start playing fantasy-pseudo-historical-fiction-JRPG-TBS game Banner of the Maid.
