And Chief definitely would be more auth right since ya know he usually doesn't question orders and works for a military that overthrew the civilan government during wartime(they did give the power back once the war was over though)

Chief does question orders even during the war he just more often decides to follow them, and after the war he veers straight into libertarianism considering the state constantly betrays and lets him down despite his being a loyal slave for a generation.

The federation has a veneer of socialism because things like food, housing, and clothes are virtually worthless in their society due to a stable population and near-zero cost. Once you get outside their massively over-producable commodities they have to trade like anyone else.

Also lets not throw the "where this series' values ended up" stone from the glass house of Star Wars.
