You know, I think it’s sort of become a dichotomy of sorts that nationalism is inherently xenophobic whereas communism or globalism is completely accepting
That said, I don’t think the Romans did that much “romanization” for everybody
Course, bringing in Roman teachers and having the Roman language taught reminds me of the Japanese’s attempts at assimilating the Filipinos by controlling education, language included, and even choosing Priests and such

I’m of the opinion that you can’t fully assimilate a people, but make it so that they have similarities with you
Like, sure they have their particular style of dancing and food, but they speak english as a second language and mix it with their own and have somewhat similar values or economic policies
