Star Wars For Want of a Nail: A star wars AU (Galaxy-314)

Chapter 1: For want of a nail.
Summary: What happens when a Droid Mechanic and computer engineer that took a vactaion in the Prime timeline decides not to take a vacation in this timeline? It turns out you get a bit of a butterfly effect.

Author’s notes.: So I got inspiration from this after messing around with Character. AI. I’m not sure how much of this can be taken seriously and how much of it can’t/ I can’t exactly call it a parody, I’m not sure what to call it. It’ll take a bit from the EU but not exactly beat for beat. Overall I’m just hoping the main character ends up being better than Rey. That’s not that high of a bar right?

Disclaimer: I don’t own Star Wars.

“Even the smallest of people can change the course of the future." -Galadriel from Peter Jackson's The Lord of The Rings.

Jasdil Clarwil took a deep breath as he gazed out the window of the starcruiser as he drugged through the weekly commute. Honestly he hated his job, he was a prodigy within Cybot Galactica always having new droid designs and ideas to share. Every day he was thinking of ways to make droid parts better and more efficient. The clone wars however had put a screeching halt. Official CG had sided with the Republic but Jasdil had personally sided with the Confederacy, he had hated the Republic and like many who shared his mentality, he had his reasons. He had grown up on the Planet of Taris. Nearly 4000 years ago the planet had been laid waste by some bombardment over time the people themselves had forgotten who had bombarded the planet as well as the why. But even nearly 4 millenia later the effects could still be felt.

Much of the planet had been rebuilt, but the planet itself was a hollow shell of what it once was. The people who came from that planet were separated into two categories. There were the wealthy elites that lived in the very upper parts of the city…and there was everyone else. The Republic largely ignored the starving masses and even rich people who lived in the upper parts tended to view it as a “Lesser Coruscant '' looting the world for what it was worth and left the rest of the planet to fend for itself. Taris had remained neutral during the war, individuals however tended to side with one of the two factions. Some sided with the Republic, others like Jasdil sided with the CIS.

The job itself however was still soul sucking. Despite his skills with designing and building droids the Separatist didn’t really take advantage of his talents. No his job was maintaining the mining droids and the computer systems of the Banking Clan’s mines on Mustafar. Still it paid well. Maybe once the war was over he’d use the money he had saved and book passage to Bespin.

The moment he landed on the planet however, something seemed wrong. He couldn't explain it but something just felt…foul like there was a darkness. His mother had told him that he had a gift, that he had the ability to feel into the heavens, the spirit world. She had once tried to get the Jedi to take him and train him in hopes that she could get him away from the foul ghetto’s of the undercity but the Jedi rejected him, saying he was too old and his attachments to her were too great.

To this day her biggest regret was not being able to give him to the Jedi. Even if it meant never seeing him again, even if it meant he’d never remember her, she couldn't help but think that it would have been a better life than one on Taris.

Jasdil as he had gotten older saw things a whole lot differently. He had seen the atrocities done by the republic clone soldiers and the jedi generals that led them. He had heard so many stories Families getting caught in the crossfire. During one trip during Coruscant he had nearly gotten robbed by a sister duo, They were recently made orphans. A crashing transport was heading toward a populated area. The Jedi “Saved” the day by redirecting into the area where they lived. When the two sisters grieved the jedi that did the deed came to them. What was her response? Not an apology, but a justification and a hollow word of comfort. “I needed to make a choice, but do not worry or grieve as the Force will be with you.”

Yeah, Jasdil had dodged a bullet. So why now did he feel like he was walking into a fire. The reality of the situation fully hit him once he saw the corpses of Nemodian guards. He gazed upon the bodies he had autopsied enough droids to know what those scorched marks across the guards bellies were, lightsaber slashes. He couldn't help but sigh. This morning he had considered taking the week off and taking a long overdue vacation, but he decided against it at the last minute.

"You should have taken that Vacation Jas." he mumbled to himself."

The closest ship was in the main base where all the separatist leaders would be. He grabbed a blaster and a Vibrosword and headed to the hanger. When he approached however his blood ran cold.

There was a man in a cloak with glowing yellow eyes that blessed like sulfur. Jasdil had recognized the man from holo recordings, it was Anakin Skywalker, but something felt wrong…aside from his obviously unsettling eyes, his face looked hollow. When the two locked eyes, Anakin let out a sigh.

“I’m afraid coming here was your last mistake.”

Anakin activated his lightsaber and Jasdil felt himself being pulled forward with some sort of invisible hand. He felt his throat constrict as if the life was being choked from him.

“Submit.” Anakin growled.

Jasdil pushed against whatever this invisible force was and managed to grab the blaster he picked up from one of the dead guards. He fired a shot and while it didn’t kill Anakin, it was enough to break the hold. Jasdil coughed as he caught his breath and made the best decision he could. He ran.

Anakin chased after him like a predator running after wounded prey. All Jasdil could do was flee, he had no chance of taking Anakin head on. At best he seemed to be able to slow Anakin down. Explode oil tankers knock over crates and so on. The chase seemed to last for a good hour and Jasdil felt himself tire. Jasdil nearly collapsed under a cooling pipeline. It was over. Anakin walked to him. “You’re about to die.”

From the corner of his eye Jasdil saw a big red button and raced to press it. As Anakin was about to strike a killing blow, he felt himself be lifted into the air as he got sucked into a cooling turbine. He let out a scream..

Jasdil turned off the switch and the turbine turned off. The results were…gory to say the least. Anakin had been reduced to a torso and a head that fell with a thud as chucks of his limbs were scattered across the ground. His intestines were hanging out of empty space where his belly once was. The left half of his face had been completely torn off as his eyeball bludged out of exposed muscle and bone. What was scary is that Anakin himself had somehow survived….if you could call it that.

Anakin spewed out blood and let out a violent cough. Looking up at Jasdil he led out a sneer. His final words came out as a horse whisper.

“I…Hate…You.” and with that. Anakin was dead. Jasdil took several deep breaths. Not wanting to take any chances he grabbed the lightsaber that had fallen a few feet away form the jedi, activated it and decapitated Anakin. If he wasn't dead before he was certainly dead now.

This whole thing felt unreal. He had survived an encounter with Anakin Skywalker, some would say that he had beaten him, but as far as Jasdil was concerned he was just lucky that cooling turbine had been there. Still There were no sign of the separatist leaders or anything. Where had they Gone. Were they even alive. What did that mean for the war? Did he even have a job at this point. Those questions had to be asked later. Right now he had to get to the hanger.

Wow, life sucks then you get ahead in the game.
Puns aside, would Anakin haunt him out of spite as a force ghost?

All because of a vacation!! Toss everything you would expect to happen in the woodchipper. I look forward for more.

I'm looking forward to his future interactions with Padme and Kenobi.

Also...wondering how this will change Palpy's plans in the immediate future.

I can't help it. As far for interactions, Arm plus a set of legs for Kenobi when surrendering the moral high ground to him and then a heart for Padame.

Sounds like the start of a parody of the wizard of OZ.... Palpatine is the the Evil Wizard of OZ.

Anakin lost his legs....

I'm shocked I've not gotten eviscerated for how I killed off Anakin/Darth Vader.

as for what will happen next...

at some point this is going to crossover with the Dark times Comic Series With Darth Maul Filling in as Vader's replacement at least for a while. Jasdil and his sidekick will run into the crew of the Uhumele where they will release Celeste Morne. It plays out similar to the comics except Jasdil ends up destroying the Talisman of Muur After which Morne rebuilds it and purifies it (Much like how saber crystals that are bled are purified,) Turning it into the aptly named Talisman of Morne and using it to undo Crys Taanzer's Rakghoul transformation (a Rakghoul is a creature mutated by sith alchemy sentient beings twisted by the darksided. The lionshare of lowercity/undercity Tarisians see as Rakghouls as people who have been turned into demons. (Which is true from a certain point of view Basically, Jasdil witnesses Morne do the equivalent of a Force Exorcist and it moves him to the point he wants to be trained to use the light side. Morne offers to train him which he gladly accepts and the second Act is about Casdil,Morne and the crew of the Uhumele searching for Jedi that have survived order 66 while rebuilding the droid army and CIS Navy and taking the fight to the empire and triggering the second clone wars.

I know in the EU that a Rakghoul transformation could not be undone. Even if they are tamed their personality is permanently gone. The idea I'm going with is that this belief is based on the abilities of The Talisman of Muur to which the answer is of course the Talisman of Muur cannot undo the transformation...because it's power stems from the Dark Side and the Dark side cannot create or restore can only corrupt and ruin. I orginally hated the idea of a bleeding lightsaber Crystal and purafying it but I'll admit it's one of the things in Disney Canon that's growing on me and I like the idea of the same thing being done to objects that have been corrupted by sith alchemy.

Why would you get flak for killing off the chosen one? Pre-high ground Vader isn't the amazing cyborg post-high ground Vader is.
Pre-HG Vader is a person who started drinking the dark side Kool-aid, arrogant, so sure of himself that he walked into an obvious OSHA violation while playing with his food like a cat.

As The Whispering Monk said, nobody likes him.
