The new series of animated shorts, titled Looney Tunes Cartoons, has been released on the subscription-based HBO Max platform. The series features all the main characters from the iconic 1930s and ‘40s series, still engaging in exaggerated cartoonish violence – with only one difference – from now on, the show will not feature any firearms.

I'm reminded again of a Dilbert strip where the author did some retrospective several years ago. The strip involved an intern being shot in the back by a cop, and was rejected for violence (granted Dilbert's humor can be pretty black at times). The artist erased the gun and had the cop kill the intern with a bullet-shooting doughnut as a joke, and to his bafflement the strip was accepted by the censors. They weren't upset at the kid being murdered, merely that a gun was visible in the strip.

A study conducted by the university of Hildesheim has found that authorities in Berlin condoned this practice for almost 30 years. The pedophile foster fathers even received a regular care allowance.
