In my parent's home country, something like only 25% of the workforce is women. To divvy it up, a solid are in chunk agriculture, some run their own coops, or work for a private business or personal farms. With some fairly good representation in the country's technicians.

I still think frankly the West fucked itself deep in atomizing society into nuclear families. In Morocco we still have more of a clan/tribal structure. Which ironically enough does make things more meritocratic and less zero-sum. IE most girls in my experience prefer to be homemakers, but the ones that don't can reasonably persuade the family to invest in their education and training without much trouble.

But... the nuclear family is far far too vulnerable.
You need an extended family for proper support.

A nuclear family is just 1 man, 1 woman, and several children. It is the smallest possible unit that can even be called a family at all.
But it was never the foundation of society, breaking up extended families into nuclear families was a critical part of the destruction of western society.

It's foundational for the "planning horizon" of pretty much every state around today with a culture that's mostly nuclear families. IIRC, it was an awkward side-effect of the Catholic Church taking measures to break up truly independent clan structures. Especially as it pertains to the US's frontierisms that had it straightforwardly possible to spend several centuries assuming the sons would move out and start their own farms, which worked wonders to propelling us to the top but is absolutely awful in dense urban centers.

However, we have no historical perspective on what problems does taking the nuclear family, even individualistic society to an extreme create, so we are finding out now.
