Finland "Seizes" Almost 1000 Russian Rail Cars

Finland has seized nearly a thousand Russian freight cars as a result of EU sanctions. On its face, this appears to be outright THEFT.

After the EU sanctioned Russian coal in April, Finland’s state-owned rail operator VR moved to reduce railway traffic from Russia. According to a June 6 letter from Russian Railways to the Ministry of Transport, 865 Russian freight cars have been seized by Finnish bailiffs.

VR officials confirmed that about 800 sanctioned Russian freight cars were in Finland at the moment and that the company wishes to return any that have not been seized. VR’s head of logistics said there were around 5,000 Russian cars when it decided to reduce traffic, and that bailiff authorities ordered some to be seized.

The seized railway cars belong to Russian companies either targeted by EU sanctions or dealing with indirect consequences of sanctions. Russian companies impacted by the freight car seizure have denounced the move as “unlawful.”

Finnish bailiff authorities say that Finland had frozen the assets of dozens of Russian and Belarusian individuals and legal entities, including transportation firms. In total, the frozen assets are worth about $84 million.

This week at a conference in Switzerland, Ukrainian officials said they wanted seized Russian assets and Russia’s frozen foreign currency reserves to be used to pay for Ukraine’s future reconstruction. But Western officials have yet to agree to the plan, as such a move would be outright theft.

When Greece stole an Iranian tanker, Iran took 2 of theirs in response.

You think Russia is going to hold back? This from the same part of the world that shuts down their own power plants while under the hope that a nation they are attacking via proxy will keep sending them cheap energy.

Finns, you need to go to town on the dumbfucks that are doing this, like the Dutch are.

What, exactly, is Russia supposed to do in response to this? Their military is already stretched to the breaking point, so they can hardly afford military reprisals, and it's not like they have much else they can threaten the Finns with.

Who said it had to happen this exact second? Or that it would need a ton of soldiers?

Stop being so bloodthirsty, not all reprisals are in form of war.
It can seize property of Finnish companies in Russia. It can help the Finns close the loopholes in their own sanctions and stop exporting coal/gas/oil or stop exporting electricity for good, which would mean a loss of 10-15% of all electricity used in Finland and since Sweden is likely to reduce electricity exports as well, the energy shortage can get to 20-25% range.

I thought Russia already suspended electricity to Finland back in May.

Gas as well.

And oil will be coming soon. Unless of course Finland ditches NATO and the EU and joins a future oriented organization like the CSTO.

While this is entirely anecdotes and hearsay, I realize, from the Fins I've spoken to there seems to be a general sentiment that there is nothing Russia can do to Finland that it won't eventually do anyway if it gets the chance, and all the sooner if they capitulate and Russia is allowed to continue to advance.

Funny how none of the media covered the fact that Finland then agreed to pay Russia in rubles and electricity deliveries resumed, you could find that little fact only on places like telegram.

This is a more completely thought out version of the direction my thoughts were going in general.
