Just curious what everyone's favorite uniform from the franchise is, discounting stuff that's only been seen once or twice (so, most of the future uniforms, alternate realities, etc), and what's your least favorite?

Enterprise:

TNG:

VOY/ Early DS9:

Late DS9/TNG film:

STO's Odyssey uniform, which is incidentally the only uniform pattern who's name we know.

(TMP, STD, and early TNG are also available as picks, but not shown here due to attachment limits).

I think for me, it's a split between the Odyssey and late TNG for the best, with lower decks as a very close 3rd.

I grew up with TNG, so the TNG uniform basically is star trek to me. It feels like a very solid evolution of the TOS uniform, that took what worked, like the color pallet and simple design, and added just enough complexity to get around the main issue I have with the TOS uniform, namely that it is just a brightly colored shirt and some pants.

The Odyssey is basically the ultimate refinement of the VOY/DS9/Film uniform style, that takes the more subdued elements of the film uniform and brightens it up just a little bit with the extra trim around the shoulders.

And Lower decks basically does the opposite take with the VOY/DS9 uniform, reversing the color scheme of the VOY uniform and then adding a bit more detail. My one issue is that it feels like a transitional step between the TNG uniform and the VOY uniform, it's actual place in the timeline is odd as it comes right in between the DS9 uniform and the odyssey or Picard uniform (depending on which timeline and canon you prefer).

my least favorites are the TOS film and STD.

The TOS film uniforms look great as uniforms, the problem is they don't look like any other uniform star trek has ever had, and so they don't fit into the evolving visual style of the uniforms that you get by looking at the changes from TOS to TNG, or TNG onwards. STD has the same issue.

I really like the TOS film ones, for the exact reason @Captain X cites. Those pajama ones never really worked for me. I get that they just went with that, but it almost always looks silly. Even the Late DS9/TNG film ones still look like pajamas.

The TOS films just went the right way on this, actually looking like uniforms -- but without seeming overly militaristic. They were great "good guy" uniforms. And it fit in well with the decision to make the ship seem more realistic, with more narrow hallways and stuff like that. (Especially in Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country, which are still examples of Trek at its absolute best.)

ETA
: they also looked properly 'nautical', which was fitting for a starfleet. They're the only ones that managed that.

Alas, they were not Future enough, so they had to jump in for a the Jumpsuit, which just so happens to look like Pajamas. I understand why they did it, Asthetic is everything and the Asthetic of the TOS Films just dosent meet what I think of with later Trek but still.

I should have expected that really
I grew up with the old movies so I'll always favour that look. I'd say while its a different style it isn't entirely out of the blue, take off the jackets and its basically just a refined version of the Pike era original uniform. Indeed their field jackets while grey did have that double breasted flap and lacked a collar.
It isn't a great match for the other styles but works quite well as an evolution of the pilot ep uniform for a more formal setting

My favorites right now:
  1. First Contact/Late DS9
  2. Lower Decks
  3. TWOK
  4. Kelvin Timeline TOS
The Lower Decks design honestly should've been the TNG uniforms.

The Picard flashback uniforms are bit too heavy on the black (a lot like the Odyssey uniforms), and the Picard present uniforms are too much like the Voyager ones, but with the terrible TNG style zip up back. The Prodigy Protostar uniforms are also pretty damn bad.

The Discovery/Strange New Worlds 22nd century uniforms are pretty bad, but the first iteration of the 32nd century uniform was pretty alright. Needed color on both sides of the front, but it was pretty sharp. The full color versions in Discovery S4 look kind of ridiculous.

If Picard and Odyssey are a bit too black, what's the key differance between then and DS9/First Contact, which is also really black?

Better color design.

The First Contact/DS9 uniforms use the gray shoulders to bridge the color difference between the undershirts and the black shirts/trousers. The Odyssey ones only have the thin strip of color separating a bunch of gray that's only a few shades lighter than the black, so the design feels much darker (aside from the one with the white shoulders, which does look really good - they should all be more like that). The Picard flashback ones just need those black cutouts in the shoulders filled in with the division colors.

There's apparently a new 2401 uniform in Picard season 2 that's basically a Voyager style Lower Decks uniform, but it has a black undershirt. It needed a different color undershirt, because the combo reminds me of the Warship Voyager uniforms.

My favorites are the TOS film uniforms, because they look like actual uniforms. My least favorite are the early TNG pajama "uniforms," especially the skants.
For me it is TOS, Wrath of Khan uniform, Then the TNG Film Uniform and last but not least the Goodness that is the Odyssey Uniform.

The TOS movie uniforms look the best, but I prefer the TNG show uniforms. The TOS movie uniforms look too military, too professional, and sets the wrong expectations. It'd be really weird to see the heroes getting entangled in the bizzare shenagains of the week or the goofy episodes when they look like they're supposed to be serious officers. The TOS movie uniforms only really worked because the movies went for a serious storyline.

I dislike the DS9 uniforms. They're not colorful and just look bland to look at. The TNG uniforms have more color. The STO Odyssey uniforms cross into the same "too little color, rather bland" territory that DS9's uniforms suffered from.

My problem with the ENT uniforms ties into my problem with ENT's aesthetic as a whole, where it just looks like modern NASA spaceships or aircraft carriers, which I don't really dig.

Early TNG uniforms were very, very silly, they improved with time.

I liked the ENT ones because they were practical.

DS9 had nice ones as well.

My favorites are the TOS series mens uniforms and the DS9 uniforms.

What Kirk/Spock/&co wore one the show could be described as "modern business casual with a retro look" and get the point across that Starfleet isn't, first and foremost, a military.

The DS9 uniforms were much more practical for everyday wear than the TNG pajamas. I thought those were silly back then, and still think they're silly.
