Still nothing compared to Boston City Hall for ugliest building.
Fair, but I still love Boston's City Hall. It fits the city very well, IMO.

Thank goodness it didnt survive the Great War of 2077.
I'm still annoyed it wasn't in fallout 4, but I think it just wasn't built in that universe. I'm tempted to learn modding just to fix that.

Yeah I'm not immediately opposed to brutalist architecture and if you're going to have it, government buildings would be the most appropriate receptacle of such designs.

I find the Boston City Hall has beauty in its ugliness. It's one of my favorite buildings, and I feel it represents what the city thinks about itself.

My theory is that this terrible architecture exists to remind us that our elites hate us that they rule us and that there is nothing we can do about it. The point is make you feel terrible because you are a terrible person and dont deserve beautiful buildings.

elites who act like that do not stay elites very long.

Eh, I think it’s more like they’re addicted or stuck in a particular fad

Think of how much “modern art” is admired even if almost no actual skill or throught is really put into it

If you want to know what our elites actually like, look at where they live. They dont live in cement blocks. Cement blocks are for YOU.

They promote cement blocks partly because they are cheap, but also because they know you hate them. This is the same mindset that deliberately ruins stuff like comicbooks or Starwars in order to stick it to the evil white cis-het oppressors. Make no mistake, replacing beautiful architecture with hideous concrete is a political and social act. The old, evil white christian architecture needs to be replaced with beautiful, bare egalitarian cement.

The great fantasy for these people would be to rip everything down, and replace it all with endless identical cement blocks, to replace Rheims with a multilevel parking garage and Buckingham Palace with office building.

The funny thing is the empire they want to create and impose on us will be created but wont be run by them it will be created and founded by the most conservative regressive traditionalist person on the planet who will take all of the social structors back 300 years.

And people will love him for it.

Modern architecture is an affront to God and beauty.

It depends. Some of it sucks, some of it doesn’t. This particular building, I agree, is a terrible design for a courthouse but would work as a hotel. Brutalist architecture, OTOH, is just fugly. I’ve never seen one building that looked at all impressive, and that includes Boston City Hall.

OTOH I think we’re going through a repeat of the 1970s with all the idiocy going on so it makes sense to have shitty architecture. Hopefully it’ll get better in the near future.

I don’t think neoclassical is necessarily the way to go for a lot of buildings these days, but there is a way to do ‘modern’ without it being hilariously ugly.

OTOH my preferences for government structures run the gamut; it really depends on the surrounding area, local history, and such.
