He probably tells Robert, and Robert being Robert probably entertains him since he knows Ned. All Neddard has to do is show the same Wight to Robert, and then have Robert show it to the Southerners and then...

Well, I am pretty sure that even Littlefinger will put his plans on hold when death by ice fairy is the alternative. Though not every is rational like Varys and LF are, some of them are stupid evil.

In-Regards to Varys and Littlefinger, I think the Others could be seen as opportunities

You need to hire the Golden Company to fight off a possibly unbeatable foe

And Littlefinger may want to use it to get some people killed in places where they will face too much undead opposition

After all, if you can’t rule the world, you can let it burn to the ground or in this case freeze all over

Littlefinger would probably see it as an opportunity to take full control of the entire economy. Since he's the Master of Coin he will probably be the one to organize the large amounts logistics needed.
