Taking out an oil tanker would take multiple AShMs, a Javelin doesn't contribute much to that sort of fight, and boghammers already have less expensive rockets and local missiles if they are going for a saturation strike.
Depends on the size of the fire. Also, don't forget that tankers usually run with a fairly small crew...which means very limited damage control capability.

Couldn't someone pay some Somali pirates to board a tanker and set it on fire? I appreciate using US arms to destroy a tanker would be especially ironic, but really tanker crews are few but generally aren't targeted as they don't have cargo the pirates want and the arab "navies" care about that traffic. But that doesn't mean that they can't be incentivized by a state or agency or company. This is beginning to sound like Superman II and diverting all of the oil tankers to the middle of the Atlantic ocean...

What do you think was going to happen with the sanctions?

They will have massive holes in them and Russia will be able to buy what ever they need with gold and silver until those reserves run dry, and I think that will take a few years.

Russia produces gold as well as other commodities that the world wants and needs.
India and China are buying their oil, Brazil wants their fertilizers, a lot of people want their energy, rare gases, titanium and precious metals.
They will find a way to buy or substitute what they need and they can do without Starbucks, mcDonalds, some overpriced western Veblen goods and cars as well as iGarbage gadgets.
The west will run out of fuel, food and firtilizers and face famines before somebody in Russia riots because they can't buy french deodorants and China-made American iCrap.

your knowledge of military strategy makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time.

laugh because its ridiculous, cry because it will destroy the environment

modern oil tankers have double hulls.

in order to accomplish the objective (block a Canal or strait), all you need are a half dozen semi-competent frogmen with limpet mines

pick a tanker that's riding low in the water (full of oil), use a speed tester to get the tanker's speed, set the timer on the limpet mines, plant the aforementioned mines, escape to a safe distance and then watch as the explosions blow out the outer hull and sinking the tanker right in the middle of the Canal

remember, we want to destroy the enemy not destroy the environment along with them
Yes, civillian vessels are probably far less reinforced than military ones, hence my theory that a Javelin or NLAW strike upon an LNG tanker's cistern might cause some real damage.

LNG would probably be the better target if coming from the Middle East, since that will hurt the Eurocrats IMHO.

Also, I think that what you described with mines should be doable with NLAWS/Javelins, if the damage affects the vessel below the water line.

And frankly, I doubt Islamic Terrorists or <insert rebel group here> will care much about the environment, also a burning oilspill and a sinking tanker would be something people with that mindset would prefer.

Which we wouldn't be in danger of if the vast majority of our leaders weren't either dumber than a sack of rocks, selfish jerks who would sell their own mothers for a nickel, or just straight up pure evil. We could easily be fuel independent, as well as produce more than enough food without needing nearly as much fertilizer as we currently do.

It is not just you, the majority of humanity does not live in Western Europe, North America or one of their better off former colonies like NZ and Australia.
They often both despise you and envy you a s want to live like you while they are isolated from tyour governments' spergouts and money printing shenanigans.
You do realize there is about 2 Billion people that have no electricity, no reliable access to electricity, those people want houses, lighting, heating and ACs, cars, and smartphones and fridges and the ability to eat more and better food.
Y out know, stuff they'd have if not for US foreign policy hypocrisy, money printing and shenanigans and corruption and preaching that stops the true power of a free market from improving their lives.
They are probably even sicker of the green agenda than I am.

Anyway, here is Martyanov explaining the difference between paper vs. real economies:

You don't need to hit the hull to cause a problem with a tanker. What happens if the Javelin manages to nail the bridge of the thing and the people steering the ship get taken out?
That or a mine damaging a propeller.
There are so many ways something on or around a ship in the middle of a tight, man-made canal full of ships can screw up, like the situation with (No fucks) Ever Given.

Oy, @bintananth feasibility analysis on my latest insane plot to make bigga booms and cause shiny, shiny explosions, mischief, famine, war and jaywalking АСАП пожалуйста, ! Спасибо!!!!
Google Translate says your Bulgarian means "ASAP please! Thank You!!!"

You don't want to be within the blast radius or fallout of the kinds of "bigga booms" non-nuclear chemists like my youngest sis can come up with when they screw up if those are scaled up to "a private or seaman just out of basic has to handle this in bulk just oopsied."

A nuke ain't going "BOOM!" without a whole lot of permission. A small bottle of perfluoric acid (HFO4) - which my youngest sis once said she might have in her lab - shouldn't be physically possible.
