The Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2021 had passed the Democrat dominated House last Fall but ultimately was blocked by Republican Senator Ron Johnson but has surfaced again in the wake of the January 6th Riot at the Capitol. Backed By such luminaries like Democrats Dick Durbin and ex-Communist and former CIA Director John Brennan, it allegedly even has some bipartisan support.

Point of View: Clarence Page: We have a ‘domestic terrorism’ double-standard problem

Various civil libertarian organizations as well as both Republicans and Democrats have come out against the Bill as is however, including notably Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as well as Tulsi Gabbard recently.

A diverse coalition however does support the Bill including most Democrats and recently even the Scientific American issued an article from their Editorial Board in support of it.

Huh, it’s not every day I find myself on the same side of an issue as AOC...

National Review had something on this right after the events of 1/6, I thinkbasically it’s a re-write to target a politically unpopular group. Also why the fuck Scientific American thinks it’s qualified to weigh in on a civil liberties issue is a mystery to me, but hey, it’s a free country.

Still, this is an attempt that needs to be stopped. We have domestic terrorism laws in place already, we don’t need an alteration that carves out exceptions for groups like Antifa while hitting, say, the Proud Boys with harsher penalties...

I mean I don’t like either group but FFS...

The people who stormed the Capitol building did nothing illegal until they started throwing hands at cops and fucking up some of the glass and pillaging the drawers. To call them insurrectionists is pretty much naked self hatred, disloyalty to America and debasement to the left.

They were regular people fed up with the coup that was happening and honestly we should be primarying any Republic seditious enough to support a bill that's designed to specifically target their base.
