Cleaning Chemical Exposures Continue to Rise After Trump's Sarcastic Disinfectant Comments

I just watched his comments on YouTube, I don't see how anyone is getting " inject Lysol" from what he said.
To be fair, there's a goodly number of Americans who are really, really stupid.
A portion of them being reporters and the like publicizing stuff like this, or kooky health weirdos with no scientific or health knowledge who've pushed similar nutbarishness about ingesting bleach or using it in oddball ways of questionable safety or effectiveness (Chris Cuomo's wife and, I'm sure if you looked, many celebrities...Has Paltrow and her crazy Goop company jumped into that ring yet? It's something she'd do...)...In any case, a portion of Americans being that means some people might go through with such.

Of course, that doesn't translate to 'Trump saying dumb things made them do stupid stuff' so much as 'these people are idiots'.

The prevelance of these individuals--even if in reports which are focused upon them because of their high-visibility and extreme accomplishments in being dumbasses--would almost lead one to suspect there was some kind of systemic failure occurring within the American educational system and its journalistic/health-reporting affiliate-industries to pass-along knowledge or basic critical thinking skills on these topics which are instead filled by gimmicks and clickbait about how there's 'one simple trick to curing autism!' or speculatory health segments starring Dr. Oz, Dr. Gupta or Dr. Phil playing up health gimmicks and miracle-cures or their own boneheaded thoughts in medical fields far outside their areas of expertise (also see: Dr. Carson on pyramids for an example of this phenomenon in another angle)

Anyhow...

Trump misspoke and his usual lack of any cohesion to his speechifying and off-the-cuff, string-of-consciousness spitballing weren't laudable or really appropriate. But anyone with a brain should be inured to Trump's Trumpiness after four years of the man Trumping his thoughts out half-formed and without prior consideration or proper conjugation by now.

Of course, that doesn't translate to 'Trump saying dumb things made them do stupid stuff' so much as 'these people are idiots'.

Its true these people are idiots, but is it true that they extrapolated this idea from the President's statements? or the media who made the claim that he did indeed said to inject disinfectant? Honestly Trump didn't say anything to the effect to do so, it was the media claiming he did. So I can't even said Trump misspoke to the effect that could lead to this issue.

When you refer to exposure to cleaning products, what exactly is being reported to poison control?

Are we talking “I drank bleach” or “my kid got into the bleach” or “I used bleach straight out of the bottle to clean something and now I have burns on my hands?”

The news are reporting it as "exposure" which could be anything. Although some of the treats by the Washington Poison Center and the Maryland Emergence Management Agency do imply some ingesting most are overexposure. The meat of the issue is this however:

Subject article: Calls To Poison Centers Spike After The President’s Comments About Using Disinfectants To Treat Coronavirus

Still, it’s important to mention that a CDC study released earlier this week found that calls to U.S. poison centers for cleaners and disinfectants rose significantly compared with the same period over the past 2 years. It also noted a significant increase in March of the past 2 years for both types of cleaners. Another study from the Washington Poison Center also showed a 23% increase in exposures to cleaners compared to 2019.

What’s clear is that the President’s comments won't make matters any better, especially in light of already concerning CDC and local poison center data on spikes in exposures to cleaners and disinfectants.

TLDR
1. Exposures have been increasing before the President's briefing and have been doing so for a month. The WPC had already made public warnings to the effect before the President said anything on the matter.
2. The Author even admits that Trump is probably not the cause of the increase. But that his argument's didn't make anything better.
