Charlottesville Civil Trial

So, just recently the jury started deliberations in the civil case against the organizations of the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville Virginia in the summer of 2017.

Most prominent conservatives have neither the guts nor the character to take a strong stand on this case as they did with the prosecution of Kyle Rittenhouse, but the case in Charlottesville might be just as important when it comes to the protection of freedom of speech in the USA.

The organizers of that event when through every legal procedure, obeyed the law, and were non-violent. Far left thugs and corrupt government official colluded to stop their right of free expression which is what lead to the violence and death in Charlottesville.

Now there is a civil case against the organizers of Unite the Right to destroy them financially for being victimized by the left. Anyone on the political right or just those concerned with freedom of speech or the right to assemble should be very concerned about this case just as they were with the prosecution of Kyle Rittenhouse.

Expecting a split decision at this point, because the prolonged deliberations suggest at least some of them are likely to go free. Based on the reporting I've seen, I would really be surprised if League of the South and Christopher Cantwell get dinged. And yes, this is an extremely important trial; Rittenhouse was about the right to self defense, this is about the right to freedom of speech and assembly. If they lose, it establishes the Heckler's Veto and they will use that precedent.

The Heckler’s Veto has already been established. With Charlottesville and several other right wing events, Antifa were able to shut them down with violence while the authorities gave them overt or tacit support. The lawsuit would just bring the villainy to the next level.

I hope that none of them have to pay. It’s the organizers who should be receiving money. Though I have long had a strong sense that Christopher Cantwell is a glowy.

Antifa largely got its teeth kicked in at places like Sacramento in 2016 and at Berkeley in 2017; a lot of the reason they were so vicious at C-ville was because they had lost so much face in the past year and the Right was increasingly ascendant in the Politics of the Streets. That's what has lead up to this, really, in that they couldn't defeat them directly so now they are going for the legal venue and they're openly admitting it in the Press:

It was a wild final day in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Norman Moon, who is overseeing a landmark civil trial over the deadly Unite The Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The lawsuit seeks millions in damages for nine plaintiffs injured during the rally. Attorneys for the plaintiffs say their goal is to financially cripple the defendants, a who’s who of the American racist right, and ensure nothing like Charlottesville ever happens again.
Yes, they openly admit this is a SLAPP lawsuit in the Press, and their intentions are clear.

Now, concerning the characteristics of which mention is made above, I have spoken of the more important ones, the others I wish to discuss briefly under this generality, that the prince must consider, as has been in part said before, how to avoid those things which will make him hated or contemptible; and as often as he shall have succeeded he will have fulfilled his part, and he need not fear any danger in other reproaches.

It makes him hated above all things, as I have said, to be rapacious, and to be a violator of the property and women of his subjects, from both of which he must abstain. And when neither their property nor honour is touched, the majority of men live content, and he has only to contend with the ambition of a few, whom he can curb with ease in many ways.

Niccolo machivelli the prince.
