Technology Browser and free antivirus for fuddy-duddy

My bought as 2nd hand around 2010 machine has dided.
Am undergoing forced transition from Win XP to Win11.

What browser would be most likeable to my retrograde sensibilites? I've been a Firefox user but ... I don't like the Win 7 very much. So I am open to change.

Also - anti virus. I've used AVAST but I suspect it to be a CPU and/or memory hog.
Any suggestions?

My CPU is something called ... Ryzen 7 570 ... ? 32GB DD4 3600.

I use WaterFox, which is a lot like FireFox. And the built-in anti-virus on Windows is ... fine.

Brave is a solid choice for a browser, while Windows Defender is an adequate option for anti-virus

Yeah Brave or any Chromium browser is basically okay, as are the various Firefox deivatives.
You don't need a third party antivirus unless you're clicking naughty naughty stuff all the time.
You will get way more malware protection from adblockers, than antivirus software.

Spybot search and destroy has some good registry repair technology even in the free version.
