The Name of Love
Far Right Nutjob
Let's back up.
So there's a political party in Ireland called the Irish Freedom Party, which is, in essence, the Irish version of UKIP. Their policy goals include leaving the EU, freedom of speech, immigration control, and some moderate fiscal conservatism (e.g. less government spending and lower taxes on workers).
All in all, it supports positions that most people on this website would find uncontroversial.
Recently, the chairwoman of the party, Professor Dolores Cahill, was interviewed by 95.8 LMFM radio. My goodness was it simply infuriating.
Highlights include:
- Asking if she's in favor of "inciting hatred."
- Asking why free speech laws should protect "purely racist" comments, which he assumes are not true by default.
- Asking if she considers herself a racist or a bigot.
- Calling her a racist on the grounds that she's been called a racist by people in the media.
What did you think of this interview? Are you about as exasperated by these bongos as I am?
