Movies Birds of Prey (February 7th 2020)

I legitimately liked the Huntress' character in this film. It was the only good part of the film character wise and probably the character whose most strongly connected with the comic book roots.

Okay, still gotta say, if they were gonna go for a just clothes look, they should have made it more in line with the color scheme of the comocs

I mean they at the very least had Jason Mamoa have some bits of blonde jn his hair

Hell what’s wrong with spandex? If the guys can do it, so can the ladies

But spandex isn't urban gritty!

The decision to turn Harley Quinn into the DC version of Deadpool is eye-rolling. Deadpool fit for makeover into a comedy superhero because he was originally just a bad Deathstroke the Terminator ripoff made by Rob Liefeld. Harley Quinn isn't a ripoff, she was a legitimate addition to the Bat Rogues Gallery, and the BTAS episode "Mad Love" solidified her as a tragic character caught in a cycle by the Joker.

But DC's gotta try to replicate Marvel's movie success, so nope, now she's their fucking Deadpool.

Urban Gritty? I thought they were trying to move away from GRIT

Hey, how many people even know that? Hell most people don’t even read comicbooks

It's more like Urban-Glam look.

Huntresses uniform was the least ridiculous... being all black with some odd exposed midriff or whatever. But she was able to change between her sleeveless look or whatever and a full on motorcycle suit and helmet. It was very odd.

Honestly, I hope some nerd does a supercut of the Huntress since she was the only good part of the film character wise.

I need to update my Best Movies of 2020 list now.

Oh boy... hopefully nothing pushes it off the top 15 list!

So I saw the movie last week and am finally writing about it

Overall I was disappointed.

This movie fell into the same trap as Suicide Squad. They spent way to much time on back stories and setting up characters. I thought that DC learned that they needed to go the Avengers or Justice League path with using well known or previous charaters from movies.

I didn't mind the urban glam look. While I like the spandex look this did give me flash backs to 90's comics. Not to mention that I find the urban glam look works better with the street level stoires like this instead of Superman and world ending threats.

Black Mask plotline felt a bit forced with too many twists and turns for one movie. From break up to bar fight to founding the team. It ignores that Harley is not a damsel in distress. Overall there are some large plot holes that are hard to ignore compared to other superhero movies. But the general outline at least has some potential if they do get a second movie where half of it is not wasted on backstories.

The charaters in general have little to do with their comic counterparts. This is not a big deal for regular movie goers but can be disorienting for D.C. comic fans.

The fight scenes choreography is serviceable but that is all. They have some humorous moments and lines that make you laugh mixed with some decent acting. But the plot confusion means the actors have an uphill battle in enhancing the movie.

Overall the movie was O.K. and I would have been happier spending Red Box money on it instead of Theater money.
