Yep. There was a pause, which is why I think he lost his mental place, but then he pushed on without hesitation or stuttering.

If he had gaffed stuttered there, paused even longer, or just fumbled a bit more, he would have come out looking a better than he does here, despite how people would have called out his verbal flailing.
