Avatar the Last Airbender thread

For all Avatar related discussion.

I will start with a video I found on Zuko:

Most important part I think is around 40:00 - 50:00. Basically, it shows how people are shaped by circumstances: humans are not monsters, but will readily do monstruous actions when seeking acceptance.

I have to say I liked both shows even if Korra was not as good as Last Airbender.

Did not watch the video but Zuko is one of the better redemption stories especially snice it was in a children's show. It is not an easy path or quick fix for Zuko.

He tries a couple times and takes a winding path till he finds inner peace and sides with Team Avatar. I also liked the relationship Zuko has with his family. To the abusive dad and crazy sister to the understanding uncle. You can see how each relationship shaped Zuko as a charater and his actions thoughout the show.

I personally think the best thing about ATLA was Toph.

The way her family tried to treat her as a fragile flower, ignored her abilities when shown, and even tried to have her kidnapped when she joined Aang, was really a good way to show disabilities do not make someone helpless. Inventing metalbending was icing on the cake, and what she became later, as we see in Korra, makes it even more impressive.

Plus, well, Toph was fucking hilarious in ways none of the rest of them were, and no one else put Aang is his place nearly the way Toph did.

I liked here in The Last Airbender, but not what she became in Korra. It makes zero sense for her to become a cop. They tried to make up for it by making her into Yoda later, but it never rang true for me.
