You know, I was feeling doubtful about Atomic Heart, but now that Harenko compares it to the masterpiece Hogwarts Legacy, maybe I should buy the game after all?

Something to think about!

Looks like it could be fun - I'll want to wrap up on Hogwart's before another full-price purchase though so I've put it on the wishlist.

This guy has a more balanced take on it, apparently one of the sponsors is tied to Gazprom, but that's about one good point against this game that we actually know at this point.
Beyond that, we don't know what exactly the plot will be. It could be a Soviet themed Bioshock, or even Wolfenstein style game. It could also be full on Z propaganda. So making assumptions about that at this point is just a good way to end up eating crow later.

Honestly, it being full on propaganda would be just as entertaining from my perspective. When I was at my friends house in college I would jokingly play the Soviet National Anthem. Of course, I'm talking about it being Soviet propaganda rather than propaganda for modern Russia.

In any case, I'll be keeping a close eye on reviews as they drop. Will make a purchasing decision between metacritic scores and YouTube review drops and the full release.

I've been taking it slow (and I only have about three hours a day I can spend on this) and I do a lot of exploring/sidequest material as I probably won't be back unless there is a later expansion.

GMan Lives in his review of Atomic Hearts said that it had some pretty big flaws. I was only watching the video on background but he did mention that the game, especially in the beginning, had a great amount of detail. But the gameplay, especially the bossfights were pretty lackluster. The game wasn't immersive and the dialogue was almost Hunt Down the Freeman level. So Soviet Bioshock it apparently is not.

But still pretty and playable so not a writeoff.

I would go for a wait for sale or when I am sure all of the DLCs have been releaased.

Apparently the publisher themselves in their letter to reviewers stated that the game is meant to be played in Russian with English subtitles.

I don't buy the leftist fear mongering accusations that Atomic Heart was created by proxies of the Russian Government to fund their military conquests in Ukraine.

The profits even if you assume none were given to the people who developed the game would just amount to a handful of T-90 tanks.

Looks right up my alley, mixture of System Shock and Stalker, but I never try games at release, give them few months to fix the worst of bugs.

Overall the reviews (both from games journalists and content creators) actually seem to be generally above average.

77% Overall from Critics and 7.8 from User Review. Still overall favorable.

It's probably rated that way because of politics. It's a solid B+ game just short from an A (90).

Not politics, more likely excessive hype. Watched a few streamers play it for several hours... It's a B game with the pricing, trailers, hype and system requirements of wannabe Doom Eternal.
Yet another case of a game that may be hurt by the successes of own marketing.
