John Ashfield woke up from a fairly good dream to start yet another day of work at Newark International Airport. Being fairly quick with his shower he was soon out and drying himself off in no time at all. Soon after he turned on his tv and started watching the local news as he got ready to go to his car and make the trip to work. The news was of course airing nothing of any great importance to him and so he soon turned it off.

It was yet another day of clear blue skys and nice sunshine and a fairly cool day with a high of 58 and a low of 50. About half an hour later he was busy walking up to his computer terminal quietly sipping upon his still somewhat warm coffee. Today was likely to be a fairly busy day but nothing he hadn't dealt with before in his time as an air traffic controller. The airplanes were all coming and going from Newark International Airport (EWR) without too many delays due to the weather though flight 623 was going to take off about 6 minutes later than was planned due to some drunken passenger causing a fuss and being removed. Sitting down and placing his coffee off to the side he began to deal with incoming planes. The first few hours passing by with little in the way of notable events. By about 12:27 pm he had just turned his eyes onto another incoming flight (flight 3241) when all of a sudden he felt a sudden jolt. It was small but clearly noticed by all in the tower.
"What the fuck was that"? One of his colleagues inquired as he got back to his feet.
"No idea but whatever it was it didn't seem to be much more than a jolt. Nothing seems to have been damaged as far as I can see down there. Just in case I'll ground all planes for the time being". John said as he made the call to stop any out-going flights for the time being. Seconds later a second jolt was felt only this time it was much more powerful and caused the windows to vibrate. It wasn't much longer before the phone started to ring incessantly. By this point, he could already see a sizeable number of people rush to the windows to see what may be causing the sudden jolts.

Meanwhile in a small Cessna Andrew Houss was flying over New York City enjoying the beautiful city skyline as well as the crystal clear ocean to his right. It was a sight he had seen many times in his life but one he never grew tired of seeing. It was in the middle of his enjoyment that he saw what looked to be a massive shadowy object in the ocean. Having flown for years he knew at once that this wasn't at all normal. Asking his copilot to take a few photos of the unknown object with his phone he turned his plane to head back to Newark International not yet knowing that what he just saw was about to forever change the course of human history.

"I was there when Godzilla first rose up from the ocean floor. I was there when most of downtown New York was removed from existence, and I was there to clean up the mess he left after we downed him a few days later. I said it then and I'll say it now 2020 was a bad time to be alive. If I had known how true that would turn out to be I don't know if I wouldn't have just killed myself that day and stopped myself from seeing what came later.

By the time the phone call ended John could tell that something bad was happening as he watched the many expressions that formed on his superior's face while talking to whoever was on the other end. It had started off as just confusion then slowly it evolved into fear and then into full-blown terror.
"I have just been told that a pilot has just reported seeing an unknown object just off the coast of New Jersey. He hasn't a clue what it is but he says it's moving at speed to the Eastern seaboard so until I say otherwise no planes are taking off or landing. You all are to send any new planes deeper into the interior. No more planes are being allowed to land here and none are allowed to take off".
At once the tower was filled with a myriad of questions all of which had no answers. None that made any sense at least. What was this unknown object? Why was it moving to the Eastern seaboard of the United States? Was this the opening shots of a war? He hadn't a clue and that made him extremely nervous.
"Go and get a set of binoculars and see what you can out there. Meanwhile, I'm going to call the FAA and get a better idea of what the hell is going on here. If this is the start of an attack on the United States I want military aircraft in the air now".
John wasn't about to disagree with that view. Whatever was happening it was better to be overly cautious than it would be to not be cautious enough. He had seen the attacks firsthand 19 years before and this felt terrifyingly similar to that dark day. So many unknowns with far too few answers.

Meanwhile, Andrew Houss was being told to reroute to someplace deeper into the nation as Newark (EWR) was closed to all incoming planes. This as it turned out likely is what saved his life as Godzilla soon rose up from the ocean floor only a few minutes later and started his attack.

"We are being flooded with reports of a truly monstrous creature said to be at least 275 feet tall. At this time it is slowly walking into the very heart of the city. We have no word from the president on what his response to this has been but some are saying he thinks this is fake news. I say again we have no word what Trump's response to this recent development is but some people in the white house are reporting that he is treating this as fake news".
The first reports of Godzilla on Kaiju day January 2nd, 2020 came far too late for many New Yorkers as Godzilla later dubbed by non-New Yorkers as Trespasser as he brought death and destruction to most of the city. By the time he was killed four days later and more than 511 miles deeper into the nation, he had killed an estimated 35,711 people and caused an environmental catastrophe unlike anything seen before. Following this Trump would be forcefully removed and replaced. Godzilla's body was slowly dissected and removed. A time-consuming process that took nearly three months to complete. At the time this was seen as a one-off and when no new attacks came in 2021 life slowly returned to normal. That hope however ended on March 11th, 2022 with the appearance of King George.
