Athletic director used AI to frame principal with racist remarks in fake audio clip, police say

A.I. USED TO FRAME WHITE PRINCIPAL:

Pikesville High principal Eric Eiswert was CAUGHT on tape having a racist rant.

People called for him to lose his job.

The only problem?

The whole recording was AI-generated.

Dazhon Darien, former athletic director (Pikesville) was arrested & charged for fabricating the entire tape.

Expect to see a lot more of this.

This is pretty much something I have been worried about for a long time now. If AI can be used to fake images and voices, then its the wet dream of propagandists and authoritarians.

And before everyone starts yelling that 'the tech isn't that good, and there will always be ways to tell'.

One, you assume that the stuff we have access to is the same as what the governments or three-letter agents have access to. Also, technological progression is not going to be linear.

Two, who points out what those 'ways to tell' are? Who funds the experts or programmers? It's not as if governments have shut down or discredited people who are inconvenient to them.

On the other hand, stuff like this may lead to people becoming more hesitant to jump on the bandwagon whenever someone is accused of doing something "offensive".

Honestly, I doubt it. There have been a lot of cases of obvious lies being told about someone or something that happened, and being shown the truth never convinces any of these people. Just as an example, there are still people who think Kyle Rittenhouse killed black people in spite of the fact everything that happened is literally on video. There are people who think Trump never condemned white supremacy, and even when you show them all the clips where he does just that, they will just pivot to claiming Trump lies. No, these people will eat this AI faked evidence right up, and they'll claim that it isn't faked, even if you show them the evidence that it was.

Yeah, but those people are a lost cause to begin with; I was more talking about sane people who get caught up in the mob mentality.
