AHC: Coptic (Christian) Egypt

Seems like it was a huge mistake for the Mongols not to force a battle at Ain Jalut much earlier, back when they could still sustain an extremely massive army in the region, no?

Long ago i read polish novel about crusaders,in which crusaders do not joined mongols in that battle becouse their knighth order fought each other over their interest/templars vs joannies/
Forget title, and dunno if it was true or not - but,if templars were there on mongol side, they would win.

Who are Joannies?

The Knights_Hospitaller, another order set up to defend pilgrims after the 1st crusade. Also known as the Knights of St John which is probably what ATP is misremembering as their name. After they were expelled from Palestine by the Muslim reconquest they held Rhodes for a while then Malta.

Indeed, sorry for mistake.Dunno if they really fought templars, like in novel,or not. Both orders certainly do not liked each other.
But,if they together go and helped mongols,it would change fate of battle.

So I haven't read the actual TL but I've Discovered the Tv Tropes page for another Alternate History TL and it raised my eyebrows, repeatedly. It's Called The Footprint of Mussolini. Basically a Jewish Fascist saves the life of Mussolini which leads to him not aligning with Nazi Germany. It's very...odd. Mainly because both Fascists and Communists seem to act like cartoon villains. Hitler starts a war with Hungary and Italy over Hungary deporting it's Jewish population to Italy instead of killing them, the USSR tries to fake a moon landing, the Soviet Union dissolves in the 70s and Russia becomes Tolstoyan, Anne Frank becomes the Prime Minister of Israel, Patton becomes President and a firm supporter of Civil Rights, Communism is completely discredited...somehow. I keep feeling like I'm reading the Trope page for some far right TL but then I read further on and it seems like it treats both as insane. I want to read this but I'm scared to.

Not sure how it relates to the topic of a Coptic/Christian Egypt, though.

Of note is the fact that Egypt was still about 20% Coptic around 1900.

Well, parts of Egypt, at least:

The Khan had died, most of the Army got pulled so they could contest the succession. Delay that for a year or two, seems doable, and yeah...

That was the story for a long time but it seems like Hulagu had already removed the bulk of his armies simply because there was insufficient forage for them prior to the death - or at least report of it - of the Great Khan. Its possible that if the Mamluks had attacked earlier then they could have been met by a markedly larger Mongol force and crushed but then, assuming they had decent intelligence of the region their unlikely to attack into Syria while their so massively outnumbered.

If the Great Khan had lived a few years longer then Hulagu has a chance for revenge but as I said you would still have the issue of the hostility of Berke who now ruled the Golden Horde. This wasn't only, although it seems largely due to religious issues. Also Hulagu's horde had taken over lands that previously paid tribune to the Golden Horde and furthermore Hulagu opposed the Golden Horde selling slaves to the Mamluks who used those same slave warriors to renew their numbers. See the Berke-Hulagu_war war for more details.

As such without the death of the Great Khan Mongke Hulaguis still likely to be drawn into a war with Berke. Even if say Berke had died earlier and the Golden Horde hadn't come under Muslim control there's a possibility of a war between the two Mongol factions but that's probably the best bet for a Mongol conquest of the southern Levant and Egypt.
