Here's the challenge - Have an event in any of these states - the OE, Persia, Morocco, or Japan, that is basically analogous to the Boxer Rebellion. A spasm of generically anti-foreign violence that gets so much widespread popular support that the government of the day is afraid to oppose it, let's the anti-foreign movement run rampant, besieges and attempts to massacre the foreign diplomatic presence with some support for central government forces for a time, and compels multilateral foreign intervention.
How could you get a scenario like this to happen sometime in the 19th century, or early 20th century, and what could be the consequences after the fact?
