A good coach in a good situation doesn't have to worry about their W-L record. Most DI coaches aren't in a good situation. They're more like Bud Fox in Wall Street: get results yesterday ... or else.

That's on my HS allumni card and gets
tossed out the window by most people in favor of the casual approval of others and a paycheque.

Since Shaw became HC of the Stanford Cardinal in 2011:
2011: (11-2): Lost to Oklahoma State in the 2011 Fiesta Bowl.
2012: (12-2): Pac-12 champions; won 2012 Rose Bowl defeating Wisconsin.
2013: (11-3): Pac-12 champions; lost to Michigan State in the 2013 Rose Bowl.

That said, the rankings people are definitely overhyping the shit out of teams at the bottom to make matchups seem more competitive than they are.

I know LSU got raped by 8.) Tennessee at home but now folks are calling for him to get fired? NOT happening.

There was chatter on social media with calls demanding LSU Women's Gymnastics HC Jay Clark following the 2022 Season. Yet he's still there.

Weird thing about sports: the people who care the most about the outcome - and bitch loudly about an outcome that's not to their liking - often aren't associated with the team in any fucking way.
