If you need 10-2 or 11-1 to keep your job you're in a bad work situation.

Good school coaches in good situations don't worry about their W-L record because their job is to coach their players and the final score doesn't matter.

Clarence Gaines Sr., fr. ex., was the head coach of the Winston-Salem State mens basketball team for forty-seven years. You've probably never even heard of him even if you do follow college basketball.

Football is weird in that the number of games each season is small enough that one loss can break a team.

With the other major sports it's more like "we need to win this many". The players on a very good MLB team, for example, know that they're going to lose about 2-3 games every week.

If Vanderbilt scores so much as a field goal, even if Alabama 'wins' the game 100-3, Vandy won. And with the way Alabama is playing this season, it would not shock me if Vandy actually wins.

How many interceptions against a cupcake? How many penalties? How many dropped passes? Against a cupcake? As Funnymaine put it, Alabama is not playing up to standard.
